I am a member of a self funding club - we own the land and everything inside the walls.

I know the fear when we were told we were losing our club in the middle of Ascot racecourse. Although the authority would build us a new one on Crown Land we had to find £1m+ for the clubhouse. There was a lot of rumours, theories, plans, proposals etc and a lot of worried members. It worked out in the end though

Our golf club is up for sale and has been since Oct last year, we have had some interest but as yet we are still waiting.
The not knowing what will happen (i.e. will it stay a golf club etc) when it is bought is quite scary. Being just off the M40 motorway it is a prime location (not for housing I hope

With the state of the housing market at the moment I think you are safe from the developers for a while.
