I've got 2 weeks of work left before I head up to Southport and play these 3 courses in a society week that I can't wait for.
Does anyone on the forum play these courses and have any advice or tips you would want to give a visitor. How has the weather been up there this summer as I am in Chichester and we have had a bone dry summer by recent standards - is it the same up there or can we expect to attack a few pins and get away with it. I tried that last year in North Wales on some links courses and discovered the difference between park and links golf was quite dramatic! Any help or hints will be much appreciated!

I'm not a memeber but have played Wallasey a few times as I live close by. It's superb, last played a couple of weeks ago and it was in superb condition. We've had quite a bit of heavy rain over the last week but we had a long dry spell prior to that so the courses have coped well with it.

If the wind is blowing in can be a monster, css is often 75 apparently, but it's probably one of the best courses I've played.

I have been told due to the very dry and warm weather that the rough has been ok on most of the links course until now, but after the wet week we have just had in the NW. it could be quite serve now!

Wallasey has some great holes, the 3rd and 4th spring straight to mind as does the postage stamp par 3.

Its is about 8/9 a great course, there are just 2 par 5s on the back of the course which i felt where a little of let down when i played it.

But it has a great club house and look foward to playing it again.

Hillside, well its all about the back nine! Dune links golf in all it glory. Dont go in the dunes or its probably a lost ball or at the very best a hack back on the fairway. Its a very fair course and play well it will reward you.

Formby is probably the least links like course out of the 3 and if i am honest i am struggling to really remember it as i played in a 40mph wind and driving rain lol. So it was a grind lol. But from people i have spoken to have played it in better weather have mavelled at it. The course goes round in a circle around the ladies course so which every way the wind is blowing you need to make your score on those holes.

IF you get time also try and get S&A and West lancs in on the golf trip.
