Anyone into walking and know much about good waterproof footwear? And by "good", I mean "cheap" that will do the job. Was in Sports Direct at weekend, but evry time I googled a pair they came back with reviews "not actually waterproof". I'm a noob at the walking game, but need to shift some tonnage over winter.

You will get some proper walkers coming along shortly who will be able to tell you about top end brands. I went to a Go Outdoors shop, spoke to a helpful person, explained what I needed, boots for dog walking in all weathers but no mountains, no rugged terrain. I bought a pair of Regatta waterproof walking boots and 18 months later they have yet to let a drop of water in, give decent support and are comfy. From your description they sound about what you are looking for.

Spend more if you like but they are a starting point for you to look at.

That looks like exactly the dudes I'm after, reviews seem to back up your views. Thanks others for input also.

You tend to get what yous pays for when it comes to amount of waterproofing. I've got a pair of these in a previous model and they are very good https://www.sportsshoes.com/product...GFND-5stALCt1t8o52RoCgcsQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds with normal laces or https://www.sportsshoes.com/product/sal2905/salomon-x-ultra-3-gore~tex-walking-shoe-~-aw18/ with the self fastening things that work very well. Very comfy and as waterproof as you'll need as long as you are not wading through streams. And at that price a bit of a steal I'd say.

I would alaays go for shoes over boots. Boots limit the natural movement of the ankle. I have heard them referred to as foot coffins.

They are ok if you are going over rocky ground, but a bit of walking in the woods? Not for me.

OK, so you'd go this one rather than the boot Tyrion linked to?

I'm usually a trainer person, but for scrambling up hillsides I thought a boot may be better :/

I'm more than happy to defer to Murph in his comments. My recommendation was more about the brand of footwear / cost etc, than shoe v boot. Your link is pretty much the shoe version of the one I posted so go for it. If you are not going over rough terrain then you don't need ankle support.

Have a look for North Face Hedgehogs - Goretex lined fully waterproof and very comfortable.
Should be able to get last years model online or at one of their outlets for circa £50.

I have Salomon walking boots, shoes and summer weight non waterproof 'trainers' [for want of a better word]
All have been excellent. Boots and shoes cost around £90 in sales as I seldom pay full price for anything these days.

I always treat shoes like carpets.....buy the best you can afford as they work out much cheaper in the long run. [or walk]

You get what you pay for with walking boots as you do with golf shoes. It all depends how much your going to be using them and what terrain your walking on.

I do a lot around Exmoor/Dartmoor so they need to cope with rugged and wet conditions.

Currently have a pair of Jack Wolfskins that were about £120.

As somebody who does a job that requires lots of outdoor walking on uneven terrain, you would soon realise the need for ankle support if you did this everyday. Very easy to go over if your weight is slightly the wrong way and I've done so many times, boots can be the difference between a broken ankle or just a little sore. Your better off with boots if you are going off of tarmac or gravel ground

Wow.....some absolute bargains there, like you I have the older version of these and thought they were a bargain at around £90 around 5 years ago. still in good nick and totally waterproof.
Strongly recommend
Watch the sizes, I am generally half an EU shoe size bigger with these.
