I had a very good round on Monday in the NAPGC UKPCC (Public course championship) at The Downshire. Pleased to have come second from a large field and will now be making the trip up to Fife to play in the national final in September.

3 days on and still no sign of a cut but with 42 points I'm expecting a hefty one when it comes, the Par there is 72 and CSS on the day was 71. By my reckoning that should be a cut of 1.0 and down to 8.7

Back to single figure-dom and a record low handicap for me.

Well done and it may be your handicap sec hasnt updated the cdh. I am sure it will be done next time they log in. 42 points of 10 is good shooting.

42 pts. Its a stableford comp.

I didn't hole out on the 13th , the one hole that I blobbed. If I had knocked the putt in for a 6 then it would have been 4 over - 76.

I am the handicap sec at my place, this was an AWAY score.

It seems that the NAPGC are slow uploading the scores into the CDH. I checked there and I haven't changed yet.

Ah right I get you. If that's the case can you not manually put it in as you know the CSS. If you are 5 under like you say it 1.0 that you will lose.

Yes you are both right, I will wait until Sunday because I'm not due to play in a comp until then so it doesn't matter waiting.

I have no doubt that this is what I will do but its an interesting moral dilemma.

Am I the only one who thinks it is really weird that you are playing in a national championship with a stableford scoring system?
If you are Scottish or Cat 1-ish, then probably not. If you are someone keen to promote and encourage golf for 'everyone', then probably part of a pretty small group!

For someone who is a Handicap Secy to say this is rather weird though!

Maybe it wasn't clear that Foxholer, its not an moral dilemma for me!

It can be a moral dilemma for others who may say " well the computer says I'm x so that's what I will play off" knowing full well that they have played a good round and a cut is pending.

Nope! Still weird imo!

Though I saw your point the first time.

Whether you are handicap sec or not it is the players responsibility to cut themselves if they know what the reduction is going to be. Clearly you know it is a CSS of 71 which means you are 5 shots better leaving a reduction of a full shot. I don't get what you are waiting for. Sorry to sound so stupid but as a player or handicap sec then you don't need to wait for the cut to come through.

Yes understood but this is not about me, I will be playing off the new handicap at the next comp.

The point I was trying to make LQ is that the average Joe may have an inkling that he/she is due a cut after a round. But for various reasons may wait for it to be officially applied. Some will not be able to work it out or even know what the CSS is, my guess is that they will wait and not even query it with the handicap secretary - and that's the dilemma.

Right now get what you are on about apologies for sounding daft. I am guessing the average golfer has no real idea and would wait but would hopefully in the honesty and integrity of the game play off 1 less the next time around until the update takes place.

I can't help feeling that even the casual use of language adds to the confusion, and should be avoided at all times.

You were playing of 8.7 from the publication of the CSS, and if it was also the SSS then it applied when you completed the round. It's applicable to all forms of play, not just competitions.

Whilst you know that there are alternative inferences to be taken by the casual reader of the post that add to the underlying issue you are trying to raise.

If every handicap sec got the message over to the members at their club the issue gets dealt with as far as it can be - although use of the CDH needs to become 'watertight' quickly because the next generation is starting to rely on it!

I fully expect the AWAY scores from Monday to be processed before the next time I play which is Sunday. I've been publishing our handicap database numerous times this week which would pull down any AWAY scores/adjustments. I've checked the CDH numerous times also but the scores have not been put into their system yet.

Since others played in the same comp from my club I would have to make multiple manual adjustments. I would prefer to wait a few days to see the automatic adjustments come through, is this a big problem if we are not due to play again until Sunday?

I've chased the competition organiser to see where the hold up is.

Sorry if it wasn't clear, my exact handicap was 9.7 in the comp, it is now 8.7

Congratulations on winning the club championship with 74 points......really........is this where we are going.

Check out what NAPGC UKPCC is about.

Club Championships are, by their nature, elitist!

Room for all types of comp in Golf imo.

Are you saying Stableford isn't valid form of competition? It is, after all, the ay your handicap is assessed/maintained!

No dilemma at all, everyone is responsible for their own handicap, average joe or not. If the cut is due you do it.

Congu rules are pretty clear, every player is responsible for their own handicap, my personal opinion is that clubs do not do enough to make this clear to members, especially those who play HC counting comps away from home.
