Wilson Staff Di11s are currently being sold at American Golf for £199.99, which I'm tempted into buying and replacing my entry-level Swingmaster irons, which while they have served me well, I'm not sure how much farther I can go with them.

I'm going down to my local store tomorrow to give the Di11s a hit, but not sure about AG's custom fitting service having heard/read a lot of mixed opinion about their offering, and some suggestions that numbers are often skewed towards selling particular brands.

So, if I decide I like the Di11s and shell out for them, can I then take them along to any pro for a proper fitting rather than trust AG's numbers? There's a Callaway fitting next week as part of an AG Tour Truck event, so also considering getting a fitting through that and then comparing the numbers before making a decision.

Seems like a 'healthy' way to go about things.

I'm rather cynical about single-brand fittings as well. The Tour Truck may also simply be a 'packaged' AG promotion rather than a genuine Callaway Tour Truck. Worth doing a bit of digging for more detils.

And if there's a Direct Golf nearby too, I believe it's worthwhile checking their offerings as well. They should have an equivalent offering for AG ones.

Definitely worth taking a couple of your current irons along to 'calibrate' the fitting too.

Not quite sure what you are trying to achieve with a Pro and proper fitting. Perhaps better to do that first - especially if your relationship with the Pro is good. I'd suggest you are up-front with him about what you are trying to achieve. Whether Pros do fittings depends on the individual Pro. Some are pure teaching ones, others sell clubs but don't do in depth fittings, others have quite serious fitting setups.

Good Luck!

Cheers Foxholer,

Sadly for PGC, we no longer have a pro as he was a victim of cost-cutting in order to help keep the club afloat, so I was thinking of taking them to a local. I'm due a DG 'MOT' on my current irons so will use the info from that to further aid the decision process.

If you fancy taking a trip, or 2, I believe Alasdair Good at Gullane has the facilities to assess you - for a fee. Highly recommendable, even if the technology isn't the latest model. He might be a bit unavailable this coming week though! :D

And Scott Gourlay at Craigmillar can do a full-blown Custom Fit - has an excellent reputation.

I'm certain there are others (The Braids?) around there too. T'Internet and your phone are your friends!

So you really have the entire range available should you wish.

i have a set of these irons and they are very good well worth the money, were recommended by a pro who has no tie in to any brand

These are a good set of irons, I've been playing these for about 12 months now the only problems you may have are if you buy them off the shelf is the loft and lie are very difficult to change because of the short hossel , and the there is a 12 degree gap between pw and sw so you'll need something to fill the gap, other than that you can't beat them at that price.
