Anyone had any experience of either?

Hoping to get a fitting booked in the next couple of weeks but wondering if anyone had any opinions on them.

Have to add im not sold on either of them but they look like no1 and 2 atm.

I quite liked the VR forged combo irons when I tried them a year or so ago, thought they felt very nice. Have you considered the S55's? I would have thought they are a closer match to the Nike's than the i20's.

A fitter I was at recently maintained that the i20's were the best irons he's ever used, and they are definitely nice

The Nikes are very pretty, and if they played well, they'd be the ones I'd go for

But as D4S has said you should consider the S55, it's a great club, so nice to hit, and really good looking as well

Personally I'd go for the i20's as they have bags of forgiveness and feel almost like forged iron when you hit them out of the sweet spot. Given that Westwood uses them it's unlikely you'll ever need a better iron.

Vrs forged are not the same as vr combos. They are a slightly bigger cavity backed iron, very close to the i20 in size forgiveness etc.

OP, you are choosing from some really nice clubs, I doubt you'd go wrong with either.

I have i20s, had them since May 2012, love the ball strike and the trajectory I get from them BUT...and it's becoming a very tiresome but....
The weight ports in mine have had a tendency to fall out. It has now happened again with my wedge (it's happened twice with my 8 iron, twice with my 6 iron and with my 4 iron). I play way too much golf to have a club from my set regularly being sent back to Gainsborough to get fixed. They fix it free of charge but it's the inconvenience of having to send back. I've had the "oh it's because it's so cold" last winter, then the 8 iron went in the summer. The wedge has literally just gone and I've yet to report it. To be honest, when I do, nothing short of a complete new replacement set will now keep my faith in Ping...will keep you posted on what happens.

Why buy Forged like irons when you can buy the real thing:fore:

Like the VR's, love the i20's. The VR's were just like any other iron when I hit them. Hit the i20's at a demo day and was just blown away with how well the long irons flew and how easy they were to hit.

I'm one of the seemingly small group that did not get on with i20's.
I'd say that despite so much positive feedback on the i20's go with what you feel is best for you/your swing/your game whether that's ping, Nike or whoever.

Now that's a completely different, and equally pointless/unresolvable, discussion!

@OP-er. If you are not happy with either set, then stay with what you've got! They've certainly performed well for you so far. In fact, I'd question why you are even considering changing! And from what?

I googled the VRS, apologies I was getting confused with the combos. Have to say, they are ugly MoFo's!!!! I20 every time

I prefer the I20's. I25's may or may not be on the horizon depending on who you listen to

Thats probably the reason for the price drop.

Let us all know mate, im sure quite a few people will be interested in how it turns out. I play twice a week, sometimes three, even more in the summer due to shifts, this is not something I really want to go through.

Currently playing with a set of 710 Ap1's that were given to me last year.

They really are a good club but im wondering if a fully fitted set would be more beneficial, Ive made a massive Handicap improvement this year but if im honest it has all been down to the short game improvement. If I can sort my driving and my iron play out then I can honestly see myself getting down to 6/7.

I will be taking my clubs along with me, if there is no significant difference then i wont be changing. For the price of a fitting session (which would be deducted from the price of the clubs) I think its worth a go.
