As per the title, anybody own a volvo v40.

Me and hid have decided a new car is in order. Need something practical as got 2 youngsters 2 & 4. No longer any need for the Picasso as we don't take as much when off on hols or visits.

Had a da test drive the other day and am pretty much sold, managed to convince missus it was better than quashqai.

Figured now now im a golfer (just about) I may as well get a sensible car and some slippers.

I know now all cars have horror stories, but as it's pretty new model can't find to much on it.

Any my info appreciated.

Gonna be the D2, cross country lux model btw.

not that car, but i have the D4 2.4 diesel engine in my xc90 and its fab. pretty bullet proof by all accounts too..

As someone who is into cars about as much Pavarotti was diets. Boxy?

is that basically not great through the gears?

It's a advert line from a film with Dudley Moore about crazy people doing adverts

Volvo's used to be very square ( like boxes ) but good cars

My parents have one and they are good cars - very well built

Ah i see, the missus likes it as reminds her of the megane.

i do remember some old estates looking like rectangles on wheels.
Cheers.

Skodas

More for your money, just as safe and comfortable. You could get a top spec skoda superb estate for the price of a base v40.

Even the octavia is better than the v40, pound for pound check the fuel economy, reviews and after sales. I had volvo for a few years, aside of the air con, the skoda is better in every area that the volvo.

we're the car through the motabilty scheme as daughter has cerebral palsy, the skodas on the scheme on only base models in comparative price range. As it's not really "our money" as such, I don't mind paying a little extra. Plus my little girl likes the cup holders in the back as they pop up. It's her car officially, fortunately I didn't show her a pink ds3!
