Volvo match play at the London club

Has anyone been there this week ? I'm going tomorrow to watch the semi and finals.

If you went was it any good ? It looks a bit dull on the tv

I've been marshalling since it started. The crowds have been sparse but were bigger today. It's been ok I think, although I hadn't seen much play until I walked a bit with Stenson today. The British Superbikes are on at Brands Hatch and is a big draw so travelling could be busy. The viewing is pretty good but there is only the semi finals, final and 3rd and 4th playoff to follow so only 2 games to follow. I'm playing tomorrow so not marshalling

Yea all you could hear On the telly was the bikes

Not been a huge draw for the fans. Not like the halcyon days of the matchplay at Wentworth. We were talking about it today and wondered if anyone would consider resurrecting it, as an invitational only. Surely if they can get bigger names than on off this week (with due respect to Stenson, McDowell etc) it could work but in this hard economic times, finding someone to pay the appearance fees, prize money etc is the real show stopper

I had mates there Friday that said the bikes kinda ruined it, but I was at the bikes so in
On the fence. With huge crowds expected at brands tomorrow I really think the local road
Structure is going to be under major pressure to cope.

I was there wednesday with a member. I dont think some of the names have a massive draw. Really needs a rory or tiger to attract the crowds. I think it would make a very good ryder cup venue though. Will be playing the international soon as it looked very intresting. I played the heritage last month.

The biggest problem with this format of golf is that there are a maximum of 8 matches on the course for the first 3 days
Today was down to 4 and tomorrow its just 2.
So there's actually not much golf to see...normally, in a 72 hole stroke play, you can walk round with a few groups on the morning, be back to the hospitality for some nosh and then go round again in the afternoon. Makes a decent day of it
With 8 matches on the course, not all of which will go to the 18th, you may have only 5 hours golf to watch.....
