Hi

Time to go shopping for some new wedges. Can I get some views on Vokeys vs Cleveland 588. I heard that the 588's wear out quicker but spin more initially.

Have tried them both on the range but hard to get the feel with range balls. Currently using set of 3 GC15, which are getting a bit old. I prefer forged, but some say it makes no difference to the feel, in which case I would opt for the Vokey's.

I chose between the 588 and the sm4, for me personally there wasn't much in it. Went for the sm4's because they felt slightly heavier which I liked. Best 2 wedges I tried when comparing

I went SM5, and absolutely love the one I've bought, the black finish is such a good looking club. I'd advise you to have a hit with both and see what you think though, some people swear by Titleist, others by Cleveland. Have a hit and see which ones suit you.

Got 3 new RTX 588's last year, had them for 8 months and were ok, but decided to get proper custom grind wedges by IC Golf, and not the generic grinds that Vokeys are doing.

I have two 588 black wedges and love them. The heads don't feel as heavy on downswing as the vokeys do if that makes sense. I get good control but not huge spin. They feel great on full shots and around the greens. Have mine 3 deg flat
Think it boils down to personal preference really as I love the look of the vokey but never got on with them.

Always found the weight on the Vokeys to be too heavy towards the head

The Mack Daddy wedges are very good as are the Cobra Trusty Rusties

I went sm5 because I preferred how they look down at the ball, performance wise they were exactly the same for me.

Both excellent quality clubs from my experience, sure you could be be very happy with either. Changed from old Vokeys to Cleveland at the start of the year as the forged head provides much better feel for me, at least. They are wearing just great and I have no issues on that front at all. Glad I went with the decision.

Possibly not one that should reply as off 15 and short game not great but have Vokeys but really liked the Callaway range.

Sorry to throw another spanner in the works but hey ho told you I should not have commented!

Why not try a fitting??

Best of lucj

Hit em Straight ....ish

Never heard of the "588's wear out quicker" comment.

I think this comes from there being a forged version of the 588s. And forged wear out quicker than cast, allegedly.
Of course the manufacturing process has naff all to do with it, but forged are often (not always) softer steel than cast.

I went SM5 when I renewed two of my wedges this year. Mainly because I've always had Vokeys and always loved them so saw no reason to change.

I picked a 60 and 56 degree in black when I was in the US earlier this year. Love the look and feel.

The only grumble is I've had them about 6 months now and the black finish is starting to wear off the middle of the face and sole of the club. So they don't look anywhere near as good as they did new.

I changed to 588 forged at the start of the season, I just couldn't get on with them. I have since went back to my old trusty CG 15's and wonder why I ever changed them in the first place, as they are fantastic and versatile wedges.

Thanks for all the feedback.

I have booked a fitting next week. I am leaning to the Clevelands, although I love the look of the Vokeys, but they feel a bit heavy to me
