Planning to catch a last few sunrays in Egypt this Oct/Nov with the Mrs and nipper. We have always planned our hols, but this time cant be troubled. So venturing into the unknown territory of tour operators. Shortlisted Thomson, First Choice, Virgin and Soverign. Thomson & FC only do 7 or 14 days hols, since we are doing a much shorter one, we are down to Virgin Holidays.

Any experiences with Virgin Holidays?

Booked my honeymoon to Sri Lanka with Virgin Holidays in 2003 - had no problems with them at all; very, very good.

I've been with Virgin Holidays a few times to the Caribbean. Always found them pretty good and I've been looked after. They reward loyalty too in the long term so you can make some great savings or get upgrades.

They pay travel agents 12.5% commission so you've got room to haggle with a travel agent if you use them (I used to work in travel).

Just looking at the FCO advice on Egypt.. not looking the greatest.. so may change to the Caribbean.

Did you mean haggle with Virgin is a possibility?

If you're booking direct with Virgin it's worth a shot, especially if you were to 'get a quote' from a competitor that offered the same for less. Even if you get £50 off that pays for some airport parking or something!

True.. Virgin is quoting 2.5K for Barbados.. so now moving back to europe.. Malta is the new Barbados. Search starts again..

You will be safe in Sharm mate. I went there the year after the bombing and not a hint of trouble. Had mates out there last year when it was kicking off in Cairo and they said they were not affected in the slightest.

travelled to the States with Virgin, superb flight, was called home for a family emegency and the rep (although I was not on a Virgin package) was excellent.

It may be worth asking about Virgin Air Miles, it may be cheaper to buy some on the bay and use them towards the cost of your break

I think we have settled for Sicily... affordable flts from UK. Now the minor thing of finding out a place to stay & do stuff..

Went to Florida with virgin everything was excellent from start to finish. It is worth doing bit of a search about including there own website then phoning direct you will get a deal if you catch them on the right day at the right time! Seems like most telesales they have targets to meet and will encourage you to book if they need a sale.
Good luck and enjoy! :)
