I can't understand the type of person who sees or is in the midst of a tragedy and decides the thing they have to do is get their phone out and video it. Pond life looking for their clip to be chosen so they get 10 seconds of fame.

But it can be invaluable to the police in working out who did what, to whom and when.

Just wish the people involved would upload the data to the police , rather than put on social media as a freak show

Video incidents can be very crucial to the police so for that it can be a good thing - as long as the video goes to them , downloading it on Facebook isn't the right thing to do though

Lately it has shown to be an invaluable tool in assisting the authorities so as stated above it should be more about what the person does with or intends to do with the footage

Unfortunately that is just a side effect rather than th purpose of the video taking. It's just a question of tim until someone does a FB live during these things.

I guess it goes someway into the mentality of the individual taking the footage, perhaps they cannot do first aid, perhaps there are many others already assisting the injured, perhaps it's not safe to come from cover, there are lots of ifs buts and maybe's.

The same argument can be applied to photo journalists operating in areas of conflict, get involved in the conflict and help the wounded and injured or disassociate from what's going on and document via images.

If it wasn't for people using the cameras on their mobile phones we would have very limited footage of the 9/11 attacks. And would only have the media footage available to share with us what happened - or their version of what happened.

I actually think it is important that this type of footage can be shared and can be shared widely without being censored.

Interestingly, there was a fatal RTA on the M3 near Winchester yesterday and police are requesting anyone with dashcam footage to hand it in.
