Whilst I have had a few hole in ones I have never had the pleasure of witnessing one, yesterday my doubles partner hit a lovely shot into our 3rd, we all said good shot, then hang on it's gone in !!!!! Much back slapping and whooping ensued + talk of buying the drinks! even the boss hole in one watch got a mention.

Walking to the hole it was still 'in', it wasn't until we set our bags down that we saw the ball wedged in just behind and I mean just, I genuinely felt sick for him as it would have been his first, can't imagine how he felt.

Has anyone else honestly thought they had aced only to be deflated moments later?

What does "...we saw the ball wedged in just behind..." mean?

I have witnessed 3 hole in ones this year, but never any I thought were in that weren't.

Playing on my own at twilight, very still and quiet.
Hit a great 2 iron which I knew would be close.
Strained my eyes to see in no avail but thought I heard a ball hit the pin.
Walking towards the green I could see a ball that looked as if it was wedged against the pin.
10 yards away I still thought I had my first hole in one.
I know what 'wedged in just behind' means.

wedged in is still in if it drops when the flag is removed.....'correctly' :smirk:

never heard the term used in the context of 'not wedged in but on the putting surface near the whole'

Sounds like you talked your mate out of a hole in one....

Well yes, I figured wedged in meant being held up by the flag but I didn't get "wedged in just behind". My immediate thought was wedged in to what?

I've had it happen to me before when the flag is leaning slightly and it keeps the ball out of the hole. Move the flag and the ball stays where it is. Frustrating.... Usually happens when someone in a previous group doesn't put the flag back in properly. If that is what you mean then I'd be very disappointed..

thats not wedged in though, thats ball stopped by flagstick.

Maybe someone will enlighten us all soon:fore:

When you've just put it there from over a hundred yards for a possible eagle, it feels like it's wedged in tighter than Bella Emberg's G String mate...:D

That's what mine was. Ball was against the leaning pin so it was wedged against the pin.
No way it would have dropped though, no matter how creative I was at removing the pin.
