Just been invited to my bank's golf day.......

Today when I came to the office was just like any other, then out of the blue got a phone call inviting me to an all expenses trip to Wentworth next week.

Even better as it is seen to be business I don't even have to take a days holiday.

I have walked the West Course 3 times now watching the Pro's and cannot quite believe my luck that I will be there on the first tee next week.

I am so excited I haven't stopped grinning all day.

This may appear a bit sad, but I don't care.

Lots of practice over the weekend, and will be cleaning all my gear so I am all sparkly for the day.

I CAN'T WAIT

You are a very lucky man, are there any pros making an appearance? What do you reckon you will shoot?

I'm usually quite steady, quite a solid 16-18 handicap. Don't hit the ball miles, but can get round most tracks. If I'm honest I'm aiming to break 100 (which allows some slack, as last 4 cards have been between 76 and 87.

If I turn up with a short game (which has been my downfall lately) I'm quite hopeful that I will do myself justice.

Am out for some practice tonight and will be playing twice over the weekend, so hopefully will be fully prepared.

At the end of the day, just to play the track is a bit of a dream, so whether I shoot high (or hopefully lowish) my main aim is to savour the experience.

I am like a kid waiting for Christmas, the anticipation is actually half the fun.

You have my simultaneous good wishes and crushing envy!

For a man with no bats at the moment, this sort of story seems to be rubbing it in! It could have been worse I suppose, it could have been me getting the invite!

Regardless of what you end up playing like, just enjoy the moments. Think how incredibly boring you can be the next time a televised event is played there!

'Oh when I played this hole, I just cut a little runner in and popped the putt in for birdie...'

Take pictures if you can and try and get as many mementos too - it'll be a day that will live long for you. Enjoy!

You are going to have a great time, the whole xperience is special.

Some advice if thats ok,no offence meant.

Enjoy the tee shot on the first but take a 3 wood as it is tight and you can still get home in 2(it will be a par 5 on the day so dont panic if you cant).
Dont stress yourself if you make bogey on 3 it is brutal and you cannot miss the fairway.
I know it plays long but use your shots and dont try to attack the course too much, the pro's can but they are gods.
The surroundings are superb, the half way hut is one of the best in Golf.
Use plenty of club on 10 you will need it.
Advice for the rest of the back 9 same as first,I love it I think it is one of the best 9 holes I have played.

Let us know how you get on and make sure you savour the day.

Wow.....what a chance!

Don't be too afraid.....it's only a golf course.....I've played at the venues for a few serious events (Dutch Open, Jersey Open, Open venues and Open Qualifying venues). For low figure players they are quite a challenge but for regular mid h'cap players just play it safe and conservative, make your bogeys (3rd/9th/13th?) and enjoy the par 5s! The par 3s won't seem anything different to a regular course.....i.i.r.c. the yellows are fairly set on the short holes.

Good news!

Played it as a fresh faced youth (well 19) off the pro tees the day after the World Matchplay (think it was the Suntory in those days) and playing off 4 and hitting it well I went round in 82. It was so tough especially the carry's to the fairway.

I've played it once since off my current 14 off the yellows and it was a far more enjoyable experience. THe course is long and your feet will know about it but the course is a fair test if you don't try and take liberties.

Go and enjoy it. Just relax on the first (it is quite wide so just make a smooth swing) and feel your way into it. Don't forget to stop at the halfway hut too

I am more than jealous. I went to the BMW earlier on in the year and made myself a promise that I will play the course at some point, it doesn't matter what happens how can you not enjoy the day.

Thanks for the kind words chaps.

I played on Saturday and Sunday, and will be out for a practice tonight as well.

I really am like a child waiting for Christmas at the moment, I cannot wait.

Thank you for all the advice from those that have played the course, I have walked round a couple of times watching the BMW event and am looking forward to the first tee!!!!

As you all say, whether I play well or badly I will savour the day.

I've been lucky enough to play a few big name courses now, but this one has been a target of mine for a while.

I will be taking my camera and will post a little summary of the events of the day, I think there are about 40 of us of mixed ability so it should be interesting!!!
