Hi all, Been browsing for ages, thought id do the decent thing and sign up. Im smithy, Aged 33 from Tamworth staffs. Been playing for about 8 months now, no more then once a week. And ive been enjoying it so much, up to now anyway. About 2 months ago i first shot under 100, Was overjoyed and been in the 90s since apart from playing the pga course at the belfry and shot 109. 2 weeks ago i shot 88, i thought id cracked it and couldnt wait to get out again, Then on friday i had a mare, shot 103, Would of been happy with that a month or so back but didnt play well at all, Got very frustrated, So tonight i thought id get 9 in straight from work, Shot 61, on 9 holes! Couldnt hit it straight for love or money! Its usually very close between me and my playing partner, but these last 2 rounds ive been playing catch up from word go and i hate it! Got an all day golf on friday, should be looking forward to it but now im dreading it! Sorry for going on, but needed to get my frustration out, Wifey doesnt understand why im abit moody lol. Just cant work this game out.

Welcome to the world of the golf addict!
Here you'll find all of us suffering similar frustrations.
Congrats on doing so well so far (after 7 years I can easily do 103!)
Seriously - have you had any lessons? Life may get more frustrating as a result, but it's worth it in the long-run.
Good luck for Friday - you never know, with your expectations low, you may do a blinder.

Cheers for the replies guys, Havent had lessons, something i am going to look into though. I have to have an op on my finger 2nd june, will keep me out of golf for a few weeks, prob not came at a bad time really! Thats why we having the all dayer, Fantastic value, 20 pound each, all day golf, Full english brekkie, soup and bread for lunch and use of the buggies. Should be a crack even if i am playing crap lol.

Welcome-your variations in play are teh main reason we are hooked on this game-We play like Greg Norman one day and the next we play like Harvey Norman.

Welcome my friend to the most entertaining (occasionally tempestuous) forum on the net. I share you pain but as one who has struggled to master this game after 30 years I think some of those scores show real potential.

I'm sure others on here and maybe some of your golfing mates will tell you one thing. Get lessons. They are essential to get a firm base on which to sit your golfing career.

Get the basics of the grip and stance sorted and you will find your golf will become a lot more solid and you should shoot more consistantly. In golf some days you are the fly and other days you are the poo. Enjoy the good times and work through the bad.

Look forward to hearing how you progress over the next few months

Welcome to the forum mate, one thing you need to remember is you are not alone- and this is no doubt the best place to get good advice and the encouragement to carry on. Enjoy it.

Welcome smithy....

The frustrating side of the game is what keeps most of us so keen; we can't wait to get out and try to do better!

You will get more consistent in time and lessons on your swing are the best solution. I wasted too much time trying to get better just by playing and going to the range...once I knew what to practice and started grooving some decent basics, 100 became a distant memory, then 90 then 80...for about one glorious month in 1997!!!

welcome to the wonderful world of the most fascinating, frustrating and addictive game there is.

shooting the scores that you are, even your bad ones, after 8 months is nothing to be worried about, there's a lot of potential there. just wish I could do as well after 17 months!

Welcome Smithy

I think you are at a point where a lot of people give up the game through frustration. You can now shoot some good scores but everybody can have a bad day. Yes it is hard to take when you have played well and followed it up with a nightmare round. You just need to take it on the chin and enjoy playing well after a previously poor round

Good God man! What are you complaining about. It took me about two years to crack 100. I have been in the low 80s in the past but after a layoff of 25 years, advanced age and dodgy health, I am content any time I have a few good holes.
Just go out and enjoy it.

Cheers for the extremely warm welcome and all the advice guys. Will never give the game up, i love it, love teeing of 7am then getting home and watching the golf. Cant wait to get back out on friday now, will let you know how it goes. Cheers again all.

Welcome smithy,

I think you should defo consider lessons if you want to be any good.

Everyone who wants to play frequently should really learn the basic grip, stance, swing etc.

You will easily see an improvement in your game after as little as 2 or 3 lessons beleive me!
