Watching this on BBC and enjoying it. Great mix of excerpts, readings, clips and live performances. The sort of programme they do really well (Chris Evans annoying presence not withstanding).

Very sadly true.

At times like this I remember with a tear in my eye my late father, his brothers, my father in law and his brothers.

All now gone and all just ordinary young men who, in their words, "just did their bit."
 
I watched part of the ceremonies in the morning, observed the silence and watched the laying of poppy wreaths by the Duke of York and politicians etc and was moved by it.

Then was livid to discover that a memorial to the women of WWII had been defaced by a left-wing protest who had spray painted profanity directed at "Tory Scum" in bright red. These protesters used VE day as a platform just to get attention for their cause and that is abhorrent.
