Vandals attack golf course with weedkiller

Last year Windmill hill GC in MK when the course was covered in snow - people in the little 4x4 buggies decided to drive all over the GC putting deep tracks all over the greens pulling various doughnuts and using bunkers to make jumps

Unfortunately it's becoming a common problem, I have heard of plenty of courses this year that have suffered vandalism, I know of one course that had issues with the farmer next door and overnight 14 greens had been vandalised. Not good.

West Lothian golf course had 3 greens ruined by someone driving on them, seemingly the second time this has happened

The really worrying part is it could be argued they made improvements to the course in doing so ;)

It's a shame because that course could be a great course

At one stage it was one of the longest in the country - it's tough of the whites.

It's a shame it's in the hands of the council and they aren't bothered with it

It won't last much longer - think they lease runs out in 4 years so Tattenhoe GC will have to find somewhere else to play

Only a matter of time before it gets built on surely, prime land for housing at some point in the next 5-10 years you'd have to think. Theyve had a pretty torrid few years there and hard to see it surviving past a few more years

Had the same problem at my course in summer after the takeover, think a ex greenkeeper took offence to loosing his job and a couple of greens, tees and fairways had words such as "greed" "snobs" and "go to hell" burnt into them with some type of chemical.

That's someone with a serious grudge !

Three courses in my area have been damaged by people breaking in at night and spinning buggies around the greens then setting the Buggies on fire.

I think it was closed at that time, the course was bankrupt and waiting on its future. There was very little remedial work or maintenance done by the council at the time but people continued to play the course, even without pins in place.

About 1/2 a mile from my house, and could have been an option to join based purely on the location and convenience, but it's been very tired for a few years now. Not sure about housing, the management put in a planning application 2 years ago or so to build 100 or so new homes on the spot of the current clubhouse buildings and car park, whilst relocating and building a new driving range and clubhouse down by the current driving range. It was refused at the time, don't know if anything has changed but I don't go in there any more. I used to use the practice facilities but I went in last year, I was greeted by a throng of golfers in vests and football shorts standing drinking and being generally obnoxious whilst blocking use on the putting greens, and members (assumption - since most visitors use the main bar not the clubhouse) peeing up the outside of the clubhouse....... no thanks.

It never ceases to amaze me the lengths some people will go to destroy things.

The council owned course near where I walk my dogs is always suffering something.

Last winter on one of the greens that has a slope facing a main road, had a four letter word in 10 foot letters starting with C across it. it was there for months. Plus someone made a giant sand castle using the sand from two bunkers with a Flag at each corner.

Along the lines of my first thoughts!

I'd never consider consider it to have potential to be a 'great' course.

However, one thing that MK always seemed to have going for it was the 'cosmopolitan' nature of the facilities that were/are available. It would indeed be a shame to see another course disappear.

Exactly the same thing happened at a club near Norwich about 4 years ago, it really did set the club back as it had to actually close for quite a long period.

I think I've maybe posted this before but about 10 years ago our greenkeeper accidentally sprayed all our greens with roundup, killed the lot and they all had to be laid again. Obviously he was in bits about it, offered his resignation but it wasnt accepted as the stuff was in an unmarked bottle. He even tried to get a bank loan to pay for it. Turned out ok in the end as our greens are really good now. Still have the same greenkeeper and he has the course in excellent condition, he stills gets a bit of stick though.

A couple of years ago someone nicked a car and drove it over 3 greens and did a handbrake turn on one of them.
