Hi

I'm insured with Golf Care but after reading the promotional article in the Nov issue of GM I realise I wouldn't be able to claim for theft of my clubs etc. as I don't have any receipts (other than for my golf bag and trolley, both of which I can retrieve from Amazon).

I contacted Golf Care this morning who said that I'd need a valuation from either a retailer or a pro. It would have to be itemised on headed paper, and with photographs.

That all sounds reasonable, but I was wondering, have any of you had gone through this process, and how much you were charged (if at all) by the valuer?

I tend to view Golf Care insurance as covering me for accidentally hitting property or a person on a course. The restrictions they place on replacing your clubs make it nigh on impossible to get their value back.

For theft from my home, yes, but not likely to be covered once they've left the house.

Anyway, it's kind of a moot point. Golf Care require proof of purchase/owenership in order to honour a claim.

if you have personal possessions cover, you are covered in and away from your home.

You need to be very careful with this. Yes they are covered away from home but not if
the're in view in your car or in use. From an insurance point of view there classed as 'in use' the second you get them out of your car for a round. So, in short you're only covered away from home if they get stolen from the boot of your car that's fitted with a parcel shelf

Suggest that you check that one.

Not true as I can personally vouch. Clubs stolen from the foyer of a club-house and claim settled under the Personal Belongings Section of Household Policy.
Also had a break in to our garage and clubs, trolley etc; stolen and only had to produce those receipts I had still got. Everything replaced on a "New for Old" basis.

IMO Household Insurance is a better bet than stand alone specialist Golf Insurance.

i claimed once years ago on a travel insurance policy when my clubs were stolen from the boot of the car outside a pub after a golf day. Clubs were 5 years old, replaced new for old, I only had to provide proof that I played golf, for which I sent them a couple of photos of me on the golf course. No receipts requested or provided
