Hi all.

Played "the lakes" course at The Vale Of Glamorgan and after hearing some great rreports, i was looking forward to it, now I would think again.

Got there and thought I'd hit some balls on the range before I went out and out of the 50 I hit I got 10 that had chunks missing and most had little to no dimple pattern, so as u can guess i learnt a lot before teeing off. Also I thought it was very tatty which surprised me considering the venue.

they had finished cutting the putting green in the morning and it was like glass!! enjoyed putting on that. So when I had a 20ft uphiller on the first birdie I felt good, I could see it hadn't been cut but ..... I Didn't get halfway there, and then left the next short......

I counted, expect the par 3s, just one straight hole. Which when its veryhilly, windy and dry makes it bordline impossible. At least at muirfield its relevantly flat of the tee.

The par 5 7th is a joke. A downhill , dog leg right cutting across the slope. Easy in two blows but you have no way of keeping it on the green and there is no lay up area either. I struggled of the tee all day , expect the one straight hole, which ironiclly i nailed it down the middle. I hit the ball well, don't get me wrong, but what I thought was a good lay up was out of position, even using the yardage book. Waste of a fiver.

Greens -- wolley and inconsitent. Some broke, some didnt. Frustating. Why shave your practice green??

plus Points -- All the Par 3s were superb. Tough but playable. lovely clubhouse, pro shop and friendly staff.

I would like to try the welsh national but the lakes, and i hate to say it, is a let down. Far too many dog legs, 12 in all and there are 5 par 3s!! With all bar few across big slopes , usually going against the hole.

(I hit 30pts sford)
