I have just become a member of my local course, my question is should I now be using their pro for my lessons and buying needs? The reason I ask is that 2 weeks I finished a 6 week course with a pro from my local John Letters academy, and it was fantastic. I now have a 5 week break, and then I am going back with rounds under my belt to begin a new regime to work some other weaknesses in my game, among anything else that has come to light in my 5 week break from tuition.

Now should I be spending that money at my new club now or is accepted that not everyone would want to use their course pro?

I would loathed to not continue with my pro at John Letters, he has worked wonders with my game so, I now hit straight with a little cut, (used to be a wild slice) and I shooting 10-15 under what I was before lessons. (i.e threatening to break 100).

patience is a virtue, and you need it with me, my worry is that if I change pro, 1) they wont be as patient, and 2) change work that the original pro has already ingrained into me

use whom you want, it's your money.

Most members want to support their local pro- quite rightly, but you are the customer and he is a business like any other, so use him if you like him and his teaching methods, and if his prices are competitive and he offers a good service then buy there if you can.

Nothing wrong with using another pro. Every pro has a different teaching style and personlity and the pro at your new club may not be right for you. If you have found one that you work well with, stick with him. I don't use the pro at my club and have lessons with Bobmac from the forum. His lessons work for me (and lessons with other pros have not) so I intend to stick with it.

I use a pro who is not based at my club simply because, like you, I was using him before I joined my club. However, I make up for this dreadful act of treachery by buying as much of my other golf-related stuff as I can in the pro shop at the club.

Your choice how you use. It might be worth getting one lesson with the pro at your club and see if you like him/her and see how you get on. But if your happy with the person your using there is no need to change. It's all about who your comfortable with at the end of the day, its your money.

The pro at your club should be doing anything they can to get new members for lessons, its his job as a business to entice new clients.

I use a different pro to my club pro. I've had lessons with my club pro but just don't find his methods work best for me. The guy I use now started changing my swing in December 2011 and we are making some really good progress. Yes I've had some blips but I have more faith in my swing and my ability now and have gone from 14-10 and although I'm now back to 11 I am convinced I can still get to single figures with my teaching pro's help
