US Open -where's the smart money going?

US Open coming up. Thinking of placing a small wager on the outcome, trouble is I've no idea who to back. It's supposed to be the toughest set up yet isn't it.
Is Oakmont a drivers course or an iron players course or a putters course? Probably all three I expect.
I fancy a punt on faT Phil M
- Am I wasting my hard earned???
Is there any point looking past Els/Woods/Scott/Singh/Goosen for a winner?

Monty - not a chance, he wont make the cut.
par_par_treble - I see Harrington at 41-1 on William Hill, who's giving you only 33-1 ?
I see Lee Janzen at 151-1, 2 time winner, you never know!

I would love Monty to surprise us but I don't think he will.

Very difficult to predict the winner but Harrington and Luke Donald would be good each-way bets.

I wouldn't risk my money on Goosen at the moment as he's still suffering badly from a dose of the hooks off the tee. Watch his coverage. He'll be up the left more often than not. He does putt brilliantly on lightning fast greens though. A straight hitter with a deft putting touch stands the best chance, in my opinion, maybe Tim Clark?

My cash is on Adam Scott , but I also wouldn't rule out Luke donald / Justin Rose for a top 5 finish

Come on, Justin Rose has hardly ever won a tournament, never mind the US Open, probably the hardest major to win. This is the big one for the Yanks so I expect one of their top 3 - Woods, Mickelson or Furyk tp prevail.
I'm afraid the Brits will not be to the fore this week. This tournament will be won by someone in their thirties, too much patience required that the younger players dont have.

I have changed my mind and backed Mr Woods at 5-1 £10 on the nose and £10 each way, he's gotta be top 3 surely?

Birdieman, where on earth did you get Woods at 5 to 1 ? He is 3 - 1 at most bookies. That's a cracking bet.

I think I'll do what I did in 2005. Wait till the end of the 3rd round and bet. Got Michael Campbell at 20/1 then thinking he was a sure-fire each way. Good old Cambo. That paid for a holiday !!!

Tiger Woods was 5-1 an hour ago with William Hill online -I couldn't resist a bet at those odds. Not a huge fan of Woods but he's usually there about come Sunday.

Don't blame you. Good luck.

Can't help but think that, apart from Woods, "the Bombers" shouldn't have a great advantage here so couldn't resist a wee £5 each way on Tim Clark given his recent 2 results at the Masters. 125-1. Think this one might suit him too.
