The US Amatuer is currently underway at Brookline. I've been following it closely as Matt Fitzpatrick from my home club Hallamshire is taking part.

He qualified in the 2 rounds of stroke play and became the 5th seed for the Matchplay. He's won his 1st 3 rounds (the last 16 match a few minutes ago) all 4&3 and is now in the 1/4 final tomorrow.

Also through to the 1/4 final is fellow Englishman Neil Raymond. Great news for English golf.

Anyone interested can follow the scores on the USGA website -

Not seen this months edition yet, but he did win the silver medal at the Open, so is becoming pretty high profile.

You couldn't wish to meet a nicer lad. He's now ranked no2 amateur in the world at just 18!!

He recently came second in the English Amateur too, so is having a good couple of months.

Looking forward to seeing this, the US Amateur always comes across as a professional tournament.......if you get my drift

Matt wins 4&3 again and is now into the semi!

Unfortunately Neil Raymond lost 5&3 and Matt pays the guy who beat him - Canadian Corey Connors.

The US amateur champion gets entry into next years US Open, Masters & The Open and the runner up gets entry into the US open & masters! Tomorrow's semi final is massive!

Matt into the US Amateur final.

Automatically now qualified for Augusta & The US Open.

The last time an Englishman won the US Amateur was 1911.

So proud of him.

Much more recent for the Scots!

No US guys in the semi might be a concern? (2 Aus, Matt an a Canadian)
