Urge to move club

Yes I do sometimes but joining a golf club is the easy part it's getting into the club that's the hardest . Once you've done that and know everyone and feel part of it then it's a real wrench to move away and go through it all again unless you form some kind of splinter group and go on block. As with many others i guess it's the people and the craic that keeps me where I am . I'm not in love with the course, the way that inter club comps are set up and the "attitude" of some of the old school generation but in general do still really enjoy my golf because there's some great members who have made me feel very welcome over the two years i've been here.

It is not that I do not like Belton and it is by far my nearest flub. I suppose it is my old bugbears, clubhouse dress code and lacking that relaxed, inviting atmosphere. Also would like more drawn comps, weekend roll ups etc to meet more people. There are great roll ups in the week but nothing at weekends. Belton ticks a lot of boxes and is a good, but not perfect fit.
You've got quite a choice in the Grantham area tho. Any other club offer that nearer to your house? Melton Mowbray, Newark perhaps?

Burgham. Nice course, flat, a split at 9 holes, bright modern bar, professionally run. Not to everyones taste but I like it. Have you played there?

Played Burgham many times
Decent course
Normally greens are very good
Not 100% flat, but not a taxing walk either
Couple bland holes , but tell me a course that hasn't.......just a poor opening 1st couple
But overall, nice enough place, and if I lived in the Morpeth area, that would most likely be my choice too

Where do you currently play...??

I am in this position at the moment, been at my club now for coming up 3 years. Been on a intermediate membership so not paying a lot a month. As of next year this jumps up to full fees. A few things annoy me about my current club, its so busy all the time with lots of societies etc. Plus the summer comps are all drawn which seems like a good idea but if you only get to play once a week and want to play with your mates you are stuck. Plus somehow the same people get to play with their group even in the comps.

Thinking of Joining possibly Letchworth or Knebworth possibly. Got a few months to decide.

Moogie - I think I would agree entirely with your description. Currently play at Morpeth.

Yes..
Although our course is extremely playable at the moment, due to the shadow of HS2, you can see the lack of investment in the course with every passing week. The owners are putting enough to keep the place going.
They have no money - a mower breaking down is a serious issue and I don't even want to think what will happen if parts of the irrigation system need replacing.
Word is that there will be a mini exodus of members in March....will I be one of them?
Have to wait and see......

looking forward to having you at AVGC!

I'm currently in this position.

There's a few reasons I wanna leave my current club. And the one I'm thinking of joining isn't as good of a course, but is better socially....apparently so that sways it for me, and it's closer which is always a bonus!

Where do you play just now Dave?

Im at Aintree mate (right in the middle of the race track) it's a nine holer, but long, too long for me and a little dull.

Pluses are it's cheap £480 a year, and the fellas are great there. But there arnt many members. it's not often there are more than say 15-16 in the weekly Sunday comp. So will probably move over to Bootle until my game improves somewhat.

Would love to be a member at your place, that was a cracking day the other week

I'm the same, Dave. (Same club too!?!?)

With my heart problems I've not been out much at all this year, and certainly no more than 9 holes. I do think, however, that when I finish the 9th the thought of having to go around the same 9 again puts me off!

Have you had a look at any other clubs in the area? I used to love playing Bootle but it was a proper dive last time I played (a good few years ago) and I always struggled to get a tee at the weekend.

Mossock Hall isn't too far away, but not played there yet.

would be good mate, but couldn't be doing with queens drive every other day. Especially nine holes after work, the thought sends shudders!

the course at bootle is better, but absolutely no facilities. Think you can get on anytime now, it not what it used to be. But my golf doesn't deserve any better to be honest.

ive not played mossock, but would love to. I've only heard good things. Anytime you fancy giving it a go, be sure to give us a shout
