I thought I would post an update on the latest news with regards the VAT on Visitor Fee Income Tribunal landmark case between HMRC and Bridport & West Dorset GC,for anyone that may be interested.

The outcome will not be known for a few weeks yet and no doubt this will rumble on and on and on if the outcome is in the golf clubs favour.

Whatever happens I know it will be a long time until clubs see their money if at all.

My betting is on a win for the clubs and then a lengthy appeal by HMRC which will mean an age to wait on any monies due.

Dodger

do you know on what basis they are appealing that visitor green fees arent standard rated?

I don't know the ins and outs of it....VAT is a bloody minefield and best left to the Pro's.

I think it is something to do with a EU legislation that sporting clubs should be at a lower/nil rate??

As the link says, ask the Accountants, all I know is that there may be substantial windfalls coming for those clubs who have appealed. ;)

thanks Dodger, Im out of touch with it, remember doign a lot of work the first time round when the initial vat appeals went through, will have to do some digging again

As an accountant I agree, we should leave this to the experts.
Anyone know of any??
