Hi All,
Firstly i would like to thank you all for your messages of support and owing to the amount of support and generous advice i have received i intend to continue playing golf, i would also like to thank the manager and staff of the club for their continued support and i would like to assure you all that they have acted with absolute commitment and have remained supportive despite an increasing amount of pressure from both parties. I would like to point out that it was not my intention to bring the integrity of this club into disrepute but to seek advice on the circumstances to which i have stipulated, as i am a new golfer i wanted to make sure that i was not mistaken and that the player had, as i perceived acted incorrectly. i would also like to say that i understand the replies suspecting there were other issues that i didn't stipulate in my post, i would like to assure you that i have entered a truthful and accurate representation of circumstances and sent a link to the post to the manager of the club for his review.
I understand that a meeting took place last night between the manager and the club committee regarding this issue and i will update you on the results as soon as i receive feedback from the manager.

Thanks again for all your messages and advice which has assured me that this is an isolated incident and not the behaviour i should expect as a high handicapper.

Glad that what happened is being taken seriously at club level and if you're able it would be interesting to find out the final outcome, more to try and get an understanding of why it came about in the first place rather than simple morbid curiosity
(after all there's still a mindset from the players involved that for whatever reason they believed they were doing the right thing regardless of how many of us disagree with the way they did it)

I don't think anyone thought your post wasn't truthful, more that it may have been incomplete in terms of the overall circumstances (& I think that lack of completeness remains for me without knowing what the Pro & cat 1 players based their actions on) after all being 'kicked off' a golf competition isn't exactly following any condition of competition or rule of golf that I've come across before

And I'm glad you've decided to stick with golf, in the big scheme of things any altercation between players should never be bigger than our reason for playing the game

TBH this is the first time I've actually posted anything on a forum ,i just felt that as i have very little experience on rules etc and that the only feedback i had was from friends who are going to be biased for obvious reasons, thought it would be better to gain some unbiased feedback. the results were obviously fairly conclusive and reassured me that this wasn't the norm.

This post almost sounds like an affidavit ! I am assuming you are getting pressure from the Club not to misrepresent them and I understand that but my interpretation of this is that the Club have not dealt with it as they are still just discussing it...I wish you luck, have you thought about contacting the R&A for some advice? I mean they are guardians of the Rules and all ? and if this is a local ruling then it must be documented, in fact have they eben told you what if any rule you have contravened yet?

the committee is likely looking for damage limitation and I bet they side with the longer standing members as it will proabley be the path of least resistance..

I really don't think the R&A have anything to do with this, and wouldn't waste their time :) It's an internal thing it sounds, nothing to do with the rules of golf.

A note of caution: Be aware that although this matter may be resolved, there may be longer term effects connected to the public way in which this golf club has been portrayed.

Except perhaps in relation to the use of the OP's buggy by the 'Low Capper'! And (a further thought!) the allowance/agreement for the lo-capper to use the buggy, by the OP! But these may be issues for Congu rather than R&A.

Good to see the Club is taking the situation/issue seriously - though they might also have to refer to the Area Authority/Congu as well - as that's the normal 'appeal' route for handicap/qualifying comp related issues.

Interesting update! My interpretation is that the club are being brought into dispute and what to distance themselves from the individuals involved!

hope it gets sorted but personally I would join somewhere else as I could see other issues down the line with the golfer you played with!

thats just my opinion though

I think it might be best if the cogs at the club are allowed to turn, the club are aware of this thread .
Further comments may not actually help the cause.

Can I suggest we wait for a further update. And then comment on that.

I really do hope this is all genuine and not someone with a grudge against s club looking for a bit of payback

Also hope the club isn't judged on one incident

I think that what you've said is fair comment Phil. I'd just like to add though, that golf clubs have several hundred members and sometimes things happen that shouldn't, so long as the people that run the club find out the true facts of any incident, sort it out according to either the rules of golf or club rules (whichever is applicable) and allow for errors that individuals can make to be put right and those making errors advised as to the correct way of dealing with the matter, then there should be no need for upset, arguments and having to leave clubs.

I played yesterday in a group who went off the wrong tee because the assistant in the pro shop forgot/failed to tell us that it was a yellow tee comp, he forgot, but I don't want him pilloried for that, everyone makes mistakes and so long as we all learn from it then there's no need for a big fall out

*New Update*

Hi All,

firstly i would once again thank you for your messages of support and generous advice, i am obviously a new golfer and this is the first time i have ever posted on a forum and i have found the level of advice to be excellent and very reassuring. i would like to point out that my last update was perceived as though i was under pressure from the club to not tarnish the name of the club,i would like to assure you that no such order was issued by the club, to be completely honest if it had i would have told them where to go. i have received the following email from the manager of the club yesterday afternoon:

Last night the committee and myself have looked into what happened on Saturday 23rd and have gained evidence from all parties in question. We are deeply saddened by the manor in which you were treated and wish to arrange a meeting you, myself and Barbra (not sure i should put name on internet), our handicap and competition secretary at a time to suit you.

i will update you as soon as i have had the meeting but it certainly seems that the club and committee are acting with the best of intentions.

Thanks again

If this is the email "copied and pasted" I would be amazed at the obvious spelling mistakes, omission of words etc.

Nice to see it is being taken seriously, I just hope that they are not going to just chat to you and sweep it under the carpet.

Refreshing though to see a golfer with a gripe that actually does something about it. Too many spend a lot of time moaning about things, but never act on it.
