I've hesitated about posting this 'cos it's a bit up close & personal....but here goes. I have just been diagnosed with a hernia. :( Now then, have any of you fellas had the same and continued to play golf in spite of it? Or know directly of someone who has? My doctor's advice was obviously to rule out heavy lifting etc. but when I asked about playing golf he said it was up to me as to whether I could cope with it or not. I shall be pretty brassed off if I can't play 'cos the time it takes to get it fixed and healed could be around three to four months, and that's this summer gone for a burton. No, I don't have private insurance; I'm too old and have too many failing bits for BUPA to make a profit out of me!

Well I dunno how painful it is before you have surgery, but I know I was playing again a week after having my appendix out ! Only chipping and putting, and swung properly after 2 weeks.

Once its repaired, you'll be playin again in nooo time.

Yep I have had one. Did it squatting at the gym, was soooo painful! for 2-3 days I couldn't do anything but lay in bed. Luckily it fixed itself and I didnt need surgery.

I wouldn't be carrying a bag with that "issue"

Take a week or two off and see how it feels with some easy swings and go from there.

I have a medical every year(to do with my job)
anyway cut a long story short. I was diagnosed two years ago with a hernia
you are done and dusted in a day, and recovery is about three weeks.
Well it was for me

I had a hernia opp about 3 years ago and although it was a very large protrusion which needed patching as well as the usual sewing, it was the actual walking that used to give me the most discomfort. Sometimes i would be bent double with pain from only taking a handful of steps. Luckily i wasn't playing much golf at the time but i would say within a couple of weeks of the surgery i could have been back on the course.

Mrs had it done under local, walked out of hospital 3 hrs after op. Ouch.

She never could hit a golf ball though, so hard to tell if it made any difference.
