The competition I played in on saturday morning has dented what little faith I have left in the handicap system and my club.
The compy was won with 44 points. CSS was 66. Par is 71. So anyone not shooting 41 points was going up 0.1.
I shot 35 points/nett +1. I know I shot a brace of 74's last week but that can't happen every time - but that's nearly what I would have had to score to avoid the 0.1.
Having a SSS or CSS that is so low is killing me.
Am I right to be a bit peeved?

I take it SSS is 67 and on the day CSS came down to 66?
That is tough, why is SSS so low - lots of short par 4's and no bunkers or water? Sounds like a place you need to be good with wedges?

The folks that do the assessing from the EGU take a lot of stuff into account to allocate an SSS, dare say the system isn't perfect but it's as good as it's going to get...probably.

We have SSS one under par which is do-able, another course I play has an SSS 3 under par which, although short, is tough to play to handicap on.

I wouldn’t bother, it's only .1 after all. The only thing that I bother with is my personal feelings as to how I’m playing.

Off the white SSS is 69(-2) but off the yellows its 67(-4).
Lots of shortish par 4's and some shortish par 5's too.
Pain in the posterior!!!

Never heard of that actually, our course is a Par 68, which changes to CSS of 69 off the Medal Tees, sometimes 70 on a tough day iirc.

Mind you, some of the Tees move back 30/40/50yds :-(

Ours was CSS 72 on SAturday due to the tough conditions. Normally sss69. So I got cut ,3 with my net71. Didnt even know it changed to 72 when it was tough.

Will pay more attention to it but as someone mentioned I only look at my score and try to do mny best,

The committee in their wisdom decided that there would be NO h/cap movement either way until Apr 1st. We're on main greens and yellow tees , the course is in good nick so I just cant understand it.
It's a real pain cos i'm shooting the lights out at the moment after my winter of practice.

Played Bowood in Wiltshire years ago and they had a SSS of 75 off blue tees to a par of 72. Played it off whites loads of times and only broke 80 once , and I was off 4 back then.

It seems you were playing a 'relatively easy' course on the day and I would imagine you were 'way down the field' with your score....

The problem is not the system, it's really the fact that the committee are playing competitions of off the yellows - which you you have to shoot 41 points to get cut from without a CSS change....so you were 6 adrift anyway....
