In the second round of the Women's Evian Championship in France, So Yeon Ryu was disqualified, as she had damaged her putter on the fourth hole by slamming it against her shoe and bending the shaft of the club, thus changing its' playing characteristics. The 2011 US Women’s Open champion, who won the Canadian Pacific Women’s Open last month, subsequently used the club to tap in her ball, which was a violation of rule 4-3b: using a club that was damaged other than in the normal course of play.
:mmm:

What's unusual about that ? Pretty clear rule break

I've never heard of it happening in a club competition! Makes a nice change from the normal forgetting to sign the scorecard, etc. :)

I'm guessing not many players damage their clubs that badly hence why you have never heard of it in a club comp

it is a pretty well known rule which is usually heard of when a pro smacks their club on something and bends it, then uses it. Tour pros should know the rule.
I don't know how badly it was bent. Anybody got any photos or videos of the incident they could post? :mmm:

Anthony Kim was DQ'd in a comp for using a damaged club and I'm sure Kevin Stadler was DQ'd for having a damaged club in his bag, even though he didn't use it again after he had damaged it.

he noticed it before starting the round, if it had happened during that round then it wouldn't have been a problem.

I don't understand that one. Surely you can start a round with whatever club you want to.... bent or not, as long as you don't change it's characteristics during the round?

He noticed the bent shaft, didn't know when it had happened. Got a DQ, as any previous rounds he played may have been with said bent shaft and hence signed for wrong score.

Bent shaft is not confirming club.
