I am a novice with a set of matching clubs. My longest club is the 3 wood, which I use off the tee. After that it's my 3 hybrid. My best strokes with the 3 hybrid go just as far as my best strokes with the 3 wood and that's without a tee. What is the likelihood that a different 3 wood would go further, or am I simply not using the longer club correctly? The ball does fly quite high.

Very hard to say without seeing a swing.

Worth going to get checked out by a Pro - to get the basics right - before simply spending money on kit in the hope that it might work.

Novices certainly occasionally or maybe even often, have trouble hitting woods at first, while the shorter length hybrids are much easier. And it's not unheard of for the 3 or 4-irons to be the 'favourite' in a novice's bag only for it to be the 'hardest to hit' a couple of years later - when all the others are being hit properly and the 3/4 isn't hit as much or well!

Thank you for your comments. It is pretty much as I thought, I am not making the most of the 3 wood. I shall continue to develop my skill with it. I am still having lessons, so I will check with the pro.
