I took his statement as a wider comment on items such as golf equipment, that some might consider luxurious, not being needed in comparison with more base requirements, such as food and transport, in an economy where one's earnings do not go as far as they used to, rather than a comment on his own products being re-stamped every 6 months with little to no practical difference.

Though I would consider the latter to be more accurate of course.

The boy came across very well, all sympathetic and caring.

However when chatting and reviewing what the young wanna-be-pro / college student had said, about making golf affordable and more accessible, our 'hero' concurs, and like all these programmes you'd expect the CEO to do something about it.

Well the programme was made at the time of the R11, which has been quickly followed by the R11s, R1 and due to the failure of the R1 an even shorter product cycle to the SLDR.

So it would seem TMAG just used this as yet another marketing exercise, cynical as ever.
