Hello guys,
I am slightly worried this weekend. I have put my name down for a competition this weekend only to find out who i am playing with! One of my teachers.... my 14 year old friend (who is a girl) playing off 3!!! and a guy same age as me who is constantly taking the mick out of me telling me i am rubbish at golf. He has been playing for 3 years and is currently off 21! He is not much better than me but i am worried if i play bad they will just look at me as bad! :(

Just dont think about it--play your own game one shot at a time, dont get upset with a bad shot, if in trouble ont try the 99 out of a 100 shot etc.
And most of all enjoy your self.

dont get yourself stressed. Just enjoy it. If you hit a bad shot, take your time before the next shot, dont rush, or this will lead to more errors. Everyone starts somewhere, even your friend off 3. So we all know that we are capable of hitting a bad'un now and again. as for the other fella that tells you that he is beeter, ignore him, play your own ball and game, dont try to be tiger woods and hit the one in a million shot, just try and play the percentage, if that means lay ups on par 4's and playing for bogey, then great, a 5 is better than a 6 or worse.
Good luck, and i said already, just have fun. :)

It's only a game.... just make sure you don't fall over, roll down an embankment and end up sat in a lake, covered in mud, watching your clubs sink :)

Hit it... hit it again, job done. Enjoy!

Everyone starts somewhere and everyone has good days and bad days, so don't worry.

You'll hit good shots and bad shots during the round. Don't worry about the bad shots, you're bound to hit some so forget about them and move on.

Good time to learn course management, then.

Play the shots you can, don't be drawn into playing the shots you can't usually get away with.

If you play with a guy that takes the pish ( especially if he's not much better than you ) then that's a sure sign of insecurity - maybe he's got a small dick and is ashamed of it.

If he starts on you, just look him up and down, laugh, and walk away. It'll tear him apart.

I love it when people take the piss. It's great. It's open season after that and they'll wish they hadn't started that crap with me by the time they've finished. Love it! ;)

What a fabulous opportunity to watch how a 3 handicap plays golf.
Try and watch how she plays the course and maybe you might learn something. Just ignore the other 2 :D

I bet you wish you were going don't you Bob???

Good luck with your game.
Just ignore them, play your own game and you'll be ok
;)

Just echoing the thoughts of everyone else on here. Good luck and enjoy it. One thing I always try to remember is don't try to hit the ball as hard as I can. If my 7iron goes 150y with a flat out swing and I have 150y to the flag then drop to a 6iron and play a smooth controlled swing trying to hit it 85% of the distance the 6iron can go. It works for me and stops me throwing the kitchen sink into every shot.

Again, good luck, smile and enjoy yourself. :)

I could't agree more. I sometimes play with a guy off 4 and invariably play better than my handicap when I do. His tips on course mnagement are great and other than the expected mate's piss taking, he is realy encouraging about my game.
If the 21 handicap "genius" isn't humbled into keeping his trap shut in the company of two much better players, I'm sure you can make unfavourable comparisons between his game and theirs.

Those of us with higher handicaps often have to play against others who are much better than us. Doesn't stop you playing well and enjoying your game. And a handicap is a handicap and levels out the difference (or most of it anyway...).

Look 'em in the eye & play your own game.

I was out last night with a 4 handicapper & a 13 handicapper, I play off 25. Well by the end of the 10 holes the 13 handicapper scored the best but I'd say I beat the 4 handicapper as he wasn't playing great.

What I'm getting at is just because someone has a 4 handicap doesn't mean they always play to a 4 handicap.

Play well and play your own game. I had the pleasure of watching James (justoneuk) today for the first time and it was easy to see why he hits it miles and plays to the figure he does. Its about accepting your own ability and trusting yourself. If you have a few bad holes just remember an extra 0.1 is all that can happen
