Not really 'learned', but I always wanted to say that :D

My second round with my new putter today in our fortnightly-ish midweek medal, and I could do no wrong with it.
25 putts in total with no 3 putts, and the shortest putt I didn't make was about 8'.
Fair enough I only hit 5 greens, but even so that is less than I'd expect to take and holed some really nice ones.

For the first 12 holes I knobbed the ball from tee to green like a hacker, but my chipping was mostly good enough to get me a decent chance of a save and I was making most of them.
I only hit 1 green from those first 12 and was +7, including 2 doubles (duffed 4 wood and OOB off a tee).

The last 6 holes I changed something (or rather changed something back) and was -2 for those giving me a +5 77, a win in the comp by 1 shot, and a nice 0.8 cut down to 8.6
I was dreading getting 0.1 to go back to 10, now I'm in danger of being 8!

It makes such a difference being confident stood over a putt rather than hoping not to leave a nasty one.

So thanks again to GM & AG for the putter fitting opportunity, and also Bob for the couple of 'nuggets' he gave me at Woodhall.

The real test will be at Blackmoor, as I've always struggled on fast greens with bigger borrows. Bring it on!!!

Good round!

I had one exactly like it last year. It really opened my eyes to the importance of being able to hole out well. Give me the ability to knock in those 4 footers over 300yard booming drives any day

Well done Gary congrats on the cut. It makes a huge difference being confident on the greens doesnt it ? Nothing is too difficult and those tricky long putts dont seem so daunting.

I gave myself about 8 very good birdie chances yesterday ,longest was probably 20' and shortest maybe 6'. Didnt hole any of them but I was stroking the ball lovely and just picked the wrong lines.

No one likes a smug git, Jammy  ;)

Just thinking about the greens at Blackmoor brings me out in a cold sweat :(

I wasnt being smug but just trying to get over the effect that being confident on greens gives you. It sort of takes away any fear or negatives from the rest of your game. Hit it to the wrong side of the green ? no probs i'll just 2 putt this and move on. Miss green and leave your self a nasty 5 footer after your chip ? no probs just knock it in and move on. Its a great feeling when you get it and its to be enjoyed while it lasts. we've all had those times when the putter feels like an alien in your hands

I know you weren't, I was just being a knob :D

I know what you mean, I've had that feeling once or twice...Can't remember when, it was that long ago.

If my approach shot is nowhere near the hole, I'll always tell myself "this is two-puttable", and sometimes I two putt, sometimes I don't. The trials and tribulations of a mid/high handicapper I suppose. My lag putting has certainly improved over the last few weeks and I'm more confident inside 15ft now, usually knocking it past the hole, rather than leaving it short, which I take as a good sign.

Just need to find some time to get some short game practice in before Blackmoor.

It's definitely an alien feeling to me standing over a putt longer than 2' and feeling confident. I like it!

It might be a new club honeymoon period, but then it might be the start of better things to come and I'll improve.

As JD said, it's not just feeling confident on the putts, but I was playing chips and pitches with more confidence too as I didn't feel under any pressure to knock it stone dead to save par.

54% scrambling
70% up and down's from around the green
100% sand saves
60% birdie conversion
1.4 putts/GIR

Sorry to go on, but I'm a happy bunny :)

Well done there mate! Fantastic shooting! I do love reading about forumers doing well! I am glad we all feel we can share successes without being branded a show off... as long as we do not do them too often ;)

So bob how do I acquire these nuggets? I am expecting you to see me with a V-Easy and say "Oh deary me, you are using it all wrong!"

A tip Jon, don't leave yourself a downhill putt on the first, otherwise you could bring the ditch 100 yards short of the green back into play ! :( :( :D

Nice one Gary, after seeing you play at Beau the putter was your weakest link that day (the rest was pretty darn good on the whole)

Had the same today with my new 2 ball, just felt I wasnt going to miss from about 5ft and didnt.

No doubt we will eat our words when the golfing gods get wind of it ;)

Well done Gary. Be good to meet up with you again. I told you last year when we played that nine holes together you'd get to single figures easily and beyond. Trust Homer. Good news on the putting although I do think Blackmoor will definitely be a test of the new stroke
