Now that winter's here, its time to make the big swing changes.

I've been having lessons with a mate who's a pro at one of my local private clubs, but am limited to weekends for lessons as I work (9-5.30) midweek.

I'm thinking of getting some additional lessons at my club that has a flood lit range for some night time sessions.

Would this be acceptable, maybe I could use my friend for short game improvement as the facilities at his club are leagues better than mine and then use the night time sessions for full-swing improvements?

Would love to know peoples thoughts, as I don't want to tread on my mates toes or make things more difficult for myself in terms of learning through the winter season.

Thanks W

how often are you thinking of having lessons?

I should say not every week as you won't have time to work on the new stuff from the lessons. once a month should be fine and stick with one.

You don't want 2 coaches that would only confuse things IMO, if you want more out of hrs coaching then
Speak to your mate explain the situation and hope he understands?

use whom you want when you want and how often you want:whistle:

oh and rather than post here why not just ask your mate what he thinks....he's a pro and he's your mate!

I would prefer to have one as it complicates matters. Its a toughie. Are you getting "mates rates" which for my two penneth would make it a little unfair to perhaps dump him entirely so the short game option would be a compromise

First of all can I just say hello, I am new to this forum and this is my first post, there are some great reads on here.

Anyways to answer your question..... I am a 11 handicapper just getting back to serious golf after a few years in the wilderness were life took over and I havent been a member anywhere. I have been working with a coach to get back into the 'swing' of things (see what I did there?), he has helped me enormously, working on small things each time I see him and giving me time in between to work on them. Now at my local range the other night I got talking to the pro there who looked at my swing and advised me to change again what I had already changed, I refused to do it as it was going against what I was working on with my coach.

I would recommend sticking to one as he would get to know your game and your swing, my coach takes me out on the course and plays actual golf with me to see how I approach the game, and I think that works wonders, different coaches can have very different ideas how to approach things, hope this helps, plus if he is your 'mate' he shouldn't mind you seeing another coach.

I certainly would not do anything without talking to your mate first. Discuss your problems with him and your idea you have stated in your post and go from there. Having two coaches should not be a problem as long as they are for completely different things (as you mentioned like short game and long game)

Right, thanks to everyone for your input, I've sorted my dilemma. I've spoken to my mate, n booked my first winter lesson for next weekend. I've talked to him about evening range sessions and he's actually given me an inside scoop and told me they will be getting a swing room with trackman or similar and a simulator screen, so problem averted!!

If I would've gone ahead with two coaches I would've had one for short game n one for full-swing n would have taken a lesson with each every month.

I know loads of people that have two coaches. My playing partner has a swing coach and short game coach!

Yep.....no issue with having different coaches for different parts of your game

Still tend to agree with this questioning how much time you have to actually practice. I tend to get to the practice area 2 or 3 times in a week and there is no way I would be able to do enough work to justify a lesson every week. To my mind, if you were having two lessons a week, you would probably be need to be practicing almost every day.

I tend to stick to being instructed by just one person as it potentially saves so much aggro and conflict - but 38 years of being married makes you like that!
