Been working on a new swing the last few weeks as my iron play has either been ok or really awful.

It all came together last night hit all my iron shots sweet. No pulls, no Shanks and no thins. Played the front 9 in a couple over gross. Back nine a whole different storey!!!!.
Now I’m normally a good straight driver of the golf ball in fact I’ve not so much as missed a fairway this year, until last night that is. A massive push or slice with the driver and 3 wood. Lost 3 balls off the tee, which makes a change from a shank from the middle of the fairway.

While playing in a comp the other week, my playing partner commented that he couldn’t make out how I was such a good driver but so terrible with my irons!! So I said you know what I’d swap my driving for better iron play in an instance.

Do you think the golfing gods were listening?

As Jimmy Greaves would to say “it’s a funny old game”

I had a similar experinace last night.

Iron play, fine.
Wedge play, probably my best ever.
Putting, in-different
Driving, chronic.

** Note to self: More time at the range needed**

Just you wait till your driving AND your iron play is good..... :)

...your chipping n putting will be rubbish :p

Thats the thing about golf that brings us back time and again.

Last year i dropped 4 shots off my handicap with good driving, iron play and chipping. The putting was awful. I worked on that over the winter and at the start of the season i really thought i was going to get down to 5 or 6 as i had started to putt really well. Then got a bad case of the shermans and that was that.
