Took a last minute slot at Balbirnie Golf Club Open yesterday.

A great front nine coupled with a sloppy back nine left me with a Nett 72 (+1)

Looking at the results today however they have listed two CSS scores 71 for the Home players and 73 for visitors. Is this common and do I use the visitors CSS to inform my handicap sec? It would see me drop 0.3 and bring me down to a landmark of 18.

I think if there is 20 or more away players a separate vcss is worked out its normally 1 or 2 strokes higher than home players , and thats the one you should use to self adjust your h/c downward only.

I'm not exactly sure how the Scottish system works but down here there is no need to inform your club, the scores will be returned online and any adjustments made. You will however have to self cut yourself if playing in another competition before the results come back.

Well done on your cut

Thanks guys.

Its quite a popular open so well in excess of 20 visiting players.

Was a bit dissappointed to let a good score slip but chuffed to get a wee 0.3 cut out of it.

My club has an away book where we MUST enter our away scores ASAP , but Balbirnie will most likely send your score back to your home club.

Depends on the club, some are fine using the CDH numbers others report back to your home club via letter etc and some do nothing and leave it to the player to inform their home club.

Bottom line, you are responsible for your own handicap so it is up to you to ensure away scores get reported back.
