Tweakable drivers & metals. Are you a compulsive fiddler?

So far I have never owned or used an adjustable driver or fairway metal. However playing tomorrow and a friend is bringing me his RBZ driver to try as he's just bought a new Callaway.

My PP has threatened to wrap it around my neck if I can't hit it 😎 because the mate I'm borrowing it from is one of our opponents. We're playing an occasional 2 ball better ball match where we're leading 3-1. Normally theses games are away from home but tomorrow we're on our home track.

Worried that given infinite tweaking possibilities I may be continually fiddling with the driver if I 'acquire' it.

Do those of you who have them often tweak your adjustable drivers and metals?

That's interesting that so far no fiddlers. I know you can't fiddle with them once round has started of course but wondering if I start to hit it well and then it subsequently goes smelly that I'll start tweaking every other day then.

I've always used 10.5 loft but have asked him to set it up at 11 as I read somewhere that increased loft can sometimes give a longer result. Always used to believe (wrongly I think?) the lower the loft = the longer (potentially) the yardage achieved.

More loft helps on certain drivers, the SLDR campaign was the main culprit for people thinking more loft was good but that was a massive massive engineering mistake covered up by clever marketing.

The static loft of the driver is really not that important, it's the dynamic loft (that will change from swing to swing) that matters and the only way to really know what is best for you is to get fitted using trackman.

I turned mine down 0.5 degree and its been there ever since

If I was getting fitted for a driver, why would I then want to change. To be honest I'm a tinkerer by nature and so I've resisted the urge to get an adjustable one.

This is me too. Hence my windiness thus far to give one a whirl but I just can't resit having a go as my king Cobra is about 5 years old now.

hmm. I have been fiddling my vapor pro recently only because of the weather. Wet ground i go for 9.5 and if its ok then 8.5.
Thats about it. I would only conisder changing anything else if I altered my swing.

This post just goes to show that what's the point in buying an adjustable driver that alters loft as most have stated they've not changed them since being fitted and bought. The concept is great for a club fitter and player to find the right head, loft and shaft combo, but after that I can't see the point in changing the loft cos its a windy day (unless all par 4/5s are into wind, highly unlikely). I suppose that new shafts that are coming out and can be put in with out extracting and glueing is also the big advantage with adjustable drivers. So horses for courses but I'm still old school.

I was fitted for mine - 10.5 set to 12. I have tweaked it down a few times to 10.5 or 11.25 but normally keep it at 12. I can launch it ok at 10.5, and if i ever make it to a range this year, i'll maybe trial it seriously. Also have my 3W set up from 15 to 16.5. Haven't moved it round at all, though may do at some point. I don't see the problem - the fitter said I could work on increasing my launch angle and knock loft off accordingly. Key thing for me is to keep the lie set a touch upright so I keep it A3, D3 or A2 setting.

I have a Taylor Made R1 which is adjustable for loft and lie, plus movable weights. I played around with the settings on a golf range until I got the flight I wanted and have since left it alone, apart from increasing the loft from 11.3 to 12 degrees to get more carry in the Winter months when there is little run on the fairways. It will go back to 11.3 for the coming Summer.
