Hi folks, a while back i mentioned about a deal I had to go to Turnberry.

We went at the weekend, eight of us and had a fabulous time. The Ailsa course well words cannot describe it for me. It was quite blustery and off the white tournament tees I carded a gross 81 which included a triple bogey 7 on the par 4 fifth hole. Other thna this one I played some really good golf............ and of course took the money !!!!

Didnt think too much to the Kintyre course however the weather that day (Sunday) was so so cold which didn't help.

Overall superb and the Turnberry hotel was something else. I have attached a couple of photos below. Im in the blue hat with the black jacket.

Well played and glad you enjoyed it. It's some course isn't it? I was lucky enough to play it all on my lonesome for my 40th and whilst the golf was dodgy cos' of quite a few snap hooks on the front 9 I thoroughly enjoyed the Ailsa, especially as it was 75 degrees with only a light breeze. I'll bet you're proud of that 81 in any weather.

I must have taken 60 photos of the course but they don't match yours!

I liked the Kintyre. I played with a kindly old gent that day and shot HIS age.......77. Hope one day to shoot my own!

That 7 course meal in the Hotel will long be remembered too. Nice to get pampered, eh?

As I have already stated on here before, the Kintyre is a dump, it is a very very very poor relation to the Ailsa. The old Arran course was an outstanding and very tough course, miles better than the Kintyre which has a couple of good holes, a few mediocre holes and some poor holes, it let's down the rest of the resort badly in my opinion.

Great pics.
Dare I suggest your left handed colleague needs to swing with more than just his arms!
Your posture on the approach shot looks textbook of course!

By the way, I have also played there a couple of years ago. Absolute magic. Liked your pictures so much that I am using the second one (without the ugly mugs!!) as my laptop background. Cheers, Taggart.

I have been very lucky and played the course maybe 6 times when the sun goes down over Arran and you are looking over the course it's to die for.I can still not make up my mind between Turnberry & Carnoustie.IMO the best 2 courses in The World.

Only played it once but would say it's the best I've played
just ahead of Carnoustie and Muirfield. Had 37pts which helps, from the 4th through 10 is a superb stretch of holes and 15,16,17 are the pick of the back 9.

I wasn't lucky enough to play with Ugo Ehiogu... :D :D

Wonderful course and great photos. Cracking score whatever the weather there.

Fond memories of my career drive in the third photo. Got the front of the green off the tee without much of a tailwind. Sadly, will probably never hit one like that again. :(

quality pictures, told you it doesnt matter about the weather playing on the best course in britain. (in my opinion) ive played it countless times. my grandfather was a member for 49 years.he passed away in 2006. ( one more year it would have been free) scattered his ashes next to the lighthouse and some in the rough. agree with other post original arran course far superior to current kintyre. glad you enjoyed your day. what a course
