With the Women's British Open being played over the Ailsa Course at Turnberry this week, I read that Trump plans to turn the 'iconic' 9th hole, the one played out towards the lighthouse, from a par 4 into a par 3. Anyone bothered? I suppose when Trump has had his day it could always be changed back.

It's been discussed before, he's making quite extensive changes to a few holes round that part of the course.

I think it's a great idea, personally. That hole has an iconic tee shot but is a bit bland after that whereas it really could be one of the most dramatic par 3s in golf.

Trump will make Turnberry 20 times better than it is him and Hawtree will work wonders. Delighted Turnberry is getting a bit of a facelift and makeover as it is needed. Back 9 especially is very mediocre and the par 3's are nothing to write home about.

It's all being done with R&A consent and by favoured course designer Martin hawtree. Seems most are excited about the changes and will only add to the course.
Halfway house in the lighthouse.

Course changes done with the R&A

But the clubhouse changes aren't and a few understand have a nice modern American stamp on it and does include a fountain which appears is a bit ostentatious

I'm desperate to not like what he's doing to Turnberry just of because it's him that's signed the paperwork, but everything (to do with the course) looks like it should have been done years ago!

I said at the time when he bought Turnberry and spoke about tinkering about with it that he would make the place better, quite a bit of negativity towards him as well if I recall, I wonder if their tune has changed?

Say what you want about the man, but he's good for golf and not afraid to put his money where his mouth is.

More power to him.

Plus the Scottish economy. Make him First Minister. Maybe he'll want to build a 50 foot wall!

He might (well, is imo) be a pillock of the highest order, but he seems to have got these changes pretty much spot on - possible fountain(s) aside!
