Only 1 golfer shown in a 30 second advert. Guess who?

Seems they don't like golf as such but really love Tiger.

Pretty poor ad if it doesn't show off more of the big names in what is a damn good field for a newish European Tour event.

Glad to see that Stenson is continuing to play well.

He is the world no.1 and still most recognisable golfer (sportsman?) in the world. So it's kind of understandable. If you want to draw in a non-golf superfan crowd you show Tiger Woods. Big golf fans will be watching it anyway, casual golf fans and non golf fans more likely to be pulled in by Tiger Woods than, say, Justin Rose. Still, could have had Tiger plus a few others.

Agree that it's a good field.

And... GAWAN POULTS!!! T1 and playing well.

Just tops up my 'OFFS not more fawning Tiger-love'. And just to add a bit more to it - R5L just this mninute reports from the competition opening with the words 'Tiger Woods is just three behind the leader... ' I DON'T CARE

He hit it by accident, not making a stroke, and was able to replace without penalty.

It's a weird one.. I'm amazed that doesn't count as a stroke, learn something each day...
Without penalty? How does that work. If he didn't mean to hit it then it has to be classed as a practise stroke so it should be a 1 shot penalty. Next time Bosh one down the road then I will call it an accident

So next time I hit one into the cabbage, if I say it was an accident and didnt mean to hit it then I can have another go? :D

Think that one needs a bit more explanation looked to me like he missed a tap-in called a ref over who said "you've been really well behaved all year so have another go for free!" you should probably note that I've no sound on my work computer and the ref may not have said exactly as I've interpreted. He may have said "don't worry Tiger Woods is playing well in a different group so this'll never be shown on telly so no-one'll ring in about a rules breach so just have another go"

Surely too long a putt for it to be a casual tap-in. However it's weird as the clubhead certainly makes a forward movement after the ball has been struck - so it's not as if the clubhead has just been placed 'on top' of the ball - pinging the ball forward - by mistake. If, as has seem to have been adjudged, the clubhead was placed down on 'back half' of ball - propelling the ball towards the hole - the clubhead would go go straight down or backwards - not forwards. hmmm.

Interesting.... seems to make sense but not if you then apply the same ruling to other clubs in the bag..... ie: you actually dink a ball in the rough with your wedge and it moves 1mm.... but you weren't actually making a stroke at the time.

Especially as you are deemed to have played a stroke if the ball moves after you place the clubhead behind the ball - even if you have not formally taken a 'stance'.

I agree, it looks like he just hit it and missed it and got a free second go. Seems he knocked it whilst putting the putter behind the ball.

Ever knocked a ball off your tee with your driver when placing it behind the ball? That doesn't count either, though some joker always says "that's 1" (usually me)

Its not like Tiger woke up and demanded he be the sole player on the advert. Cast the blame on all the corporate bigwigs.

You're hate obsession with the guy seems very unhealthy. Why is that?

I was watching live and he was, to me, upset at missing the putt and tried to, very casually, knock it in. He was never having a practise stroke as he never set up to the ball

I can't believe there was no penalty ??

I think you will find there was a penalty stroke or at least should have been under the rules

"Decision 18-2a/20 Ball in Play Moved Accidentally by Practice Swing
Q) A player makes a practice swing and accidentally moves his ball in play with his club. Has he made a stroke?

A) No. He had no intention of moving the ball – see Definition of “Stroke”. However, he incurs a penalty stroke under Rule 18-2a for moving his ball in play, and the ball must be replaced."

Absolutely.

Handicap, tone of voice, pro status or what you talk about for a living bear no influence of how well people know the rules.

What on earth goes through his head to think that there'd be no penalty in that situation?

Getting back to the tiger thing (and back on topic ;) ) he is easily the most recognisable golfers and arguably the biggest draw in the game. Why wouldn't a corporate entity want to show him in their adverts  (irrespective of what has happened in the past)

On the tour website Olesen's score for the 12th hole is a double bogey 6 so that's the missed par putt at the start of the video a penalty for his "whatever it was" and then holing the replaced ball. So we can calm down it appears he was penalised!

Agree that he will draw people in but to only show one person is ridiculous.
