Trump to buy a new golf club........Turnberry!

Great all we need is him to poke his nose into our history and to do to Turnberry like he did to Doral.

I think this could be good news, should provide a bit of investment in the course.

No doubt he will rip it up - when the course it's fine the way it is.

That's another course struck of the list of not to visit

Well it looks like he will have his wish of hosting The Open

Yep and no doubt he'll call it the best course in the world by calling it Trump National Turnberry, and the initials will give you a clue to what he'll do to it.

Played Doral the other week and it seemed fine to me. A mate who is a member I was with said he'd made the place a lot better, and my experience there was superb.

My mate met him before he took it over and he said he was quite humble and very interested in his he could improve it for the members. Don't believe all you read about him.

Did you play Doral before the changes?

Maybe so but I shudder to think what he will do to the course. It seems he's never happy without putting his mark on it in some sort of legacy way. I'm Donald Trump and look what I'm doing.

I heard that the Pro's were really impressed by the new Doral, though it probably needed improving. Turnberry is another matter though.

I did not but my mate who is a member did many times. And he said it had improved on and off the course. He's also investing a lot in the other courses/accommodation on site there to make it a great overall golfing destination.

Yes he does like a fountain, but from the admittedly very limited time my mate spoke to him he got the impression he respected the game/history/tradition, whilst at the same time trying to give the visitor/member a great experience.

So I will imagine a few things will change which may not please the stuck in the mud traditionalists who fear change. But I bet the course will improve through more investment and visitors will have a better experience.

I suspect what he does to the more traditional course in Ireland he took over will be a better indication of what he will do here than what he did to Doral.

The guy gets really bad press but in reality he does a terrific job building or improving his courses, a terrific job.

But don't let the facts get in the way of some more faux outrage guys.....

It can only be a good thing for the area as Turnberry which seems to lie empty for most of the year, busy for about 6 weeks mid summer. Hotel and lodges seem like ghost towns.

We already have a local windfarm about 10 miles away.
The expected oil platforms in the Firth of Clyde may be another factor though!

my opinion is its a good thing, no actually probably a great thing.

Turnberry lives on its reputation but in reality its hard to access and there is an air of snobbery and snootyness (is that a word) apparent.

When we paid full price for taking on 8 Americans they were given a 'Montys warm up bucket' of practice balls in the huge price, it was 20 balls:eek: don't nickel and dime an American, they don't mind paying just don't treat them poorly.

Trump might make some changes but I'll wager they will improve both courses and the overall customer experience, as that's what brings people back

Only if the R&A like any changes he makes.....if it doesn't fit their view of what an Open course should be, they won't take it there.

yes if he wants it to host the open then he'll have to run anything past the R&A first.

trump is a complete trumpet, but i'm not sure him owning TUrnberry is worse than a Dubai investment group. his love for golf at least cannot be denied.

Indeed if you visit out of season then the staff must out number the guests by a high margin. The profit margins must be really tight and probably why the price was so low.

If anyone knows how to market the place and fill it with US visitors then Donald Trump is your man
