:( Its rumoured the Trumps Have bought up Doonbeg Golf Club from the receivers in Clare ..

Good or Bad ? only time will tell ,

Its better than the place closing tho ,

I had a drive down to Doonbeg last year after playing Lahinch.. Now that is a beautiful place for a golf course.. Planning to head back over next year so might have a look at playing a round...

From the pictures I've seen it looks a gorgeous course. There's a feature on it in this Months Golf World and to me it is one of the bucket list courses if I got to play in Ireland. Bit pricey thought, but strange such a seemingly lovely course well up in the rankings of the best courses should go into receivership. So surely it's best to have someone buy it and invest in it rather than it going to waste?

Yea there was alot of stories doing the rounds about why it went into receivership and the plans of how it wouldnt be in it for long , all seemingly unfounded now as the Trumps werent being mentioned as buyers, it was the last place they looked at before heading home seemingly , heard Trump jnr being interviewed on the radio this morning ,

100% agree its best to have places like that kept going

Slightly off topic.
The guy at our village shop was talking about this today.
He watched Trump on the telly describing the proposed Aberdeen wind farm and saying 'have you ever seen anything as ugly as that.' and then thought 'have you looked in the mirror lately'.

It isn't a massive surprise that it was struggling to be honest. I spoke to one of the members at Lahinch and they were struggling to fill their membership. When I went to Doonbeg, there were very few playing. I don't know the membership costs, but if they were the same as Lahinch then they would probably have been relying on corporate and overseas members. It's not exactly an easily accessible area to be fair..

Lmao. Classic Scottish humour.

He would get a better rug from Dougie Donnally at Sterling Furniture Centre.

I played Lahinch a few years ago, they let me go out with a couple of Canadians before the first tee time of their Captain's Day - sitting in the bar afterwards I commented to one of the locals that they seemed to have loads playing in the comp - he told me that they had about as many members from outside the county as in it, from all over Ireland and beyond and Captain's Day brought loads of them in.
