True Club Champion????

Handicap limit of 14, 36 holes in one day. The club thinks that high handicappers cannot win a scratch comp over two rounds in the same day. I don't believe that's a true club championship, but then that's the rules.

Does your club have a rule where by not all members are eligible for the club championships?

Is the club champion then truly worthy of the title??

I’m excluded from my club’s event as I am a country member – no issue with being ineligible for all other board events but am a bit miffed about club champs. To identify the best golfer (of the day) at your club, surely everyone should be involved including juniors, seniors, country members etc….in fact anyone with a playing category.

Does your club do the same? Do you exclude juniors? Are you getting the true club champ??

Having read all the threads up to now then my answer is NO.

Unless all members can enter whether they be full, country, juniors and even members who have an away handicap then how can the winner be classed as a club champion. there shouldn't be any restrictions.

Also don't like the idea of a 36 hole stroke play then the top 8 going through to match play. You are either a stroke play champion or a match play champion. How can uou have someone who finished 8th possibly been the club champ.

Just a personal opinion.

Ask the organisers of the The Amateur and US Amateur Championships! Though >8 in their cases!

yes I get you but that's why I said its just a personal opinion. I have been a member of clubs that do 36 on the same day and 18 each day on the weekend but whatever the way it's done I just prefer the person with the lowest score wins. By all means do a match play event afterwards as they do in Lincolnshire for the amatuer championship

True club camp is the best gross score in the comp and should include all members inc juniors and country members. We had a junior come top of our HC championship and was not allowed his name on the trophy but did win the sweep money

I am all for limiting the field slightly, Country members, ladies, and Juniors who are NOT Cat1 cannot enter. Seniors can win as can anyone else. There has to be some plus point to being a full member. I myself used to be a country member and there's only 3 comps you cannot enter all year and I didn't have a problem with that. The ladies and juniors have there own club championship which we cannot enter so I do not see the problem.

are you a full member at your away club, or in a restricted category of some sort?

if not, you are opening an even bigger can of worms!

Away handicap status is purely an administrative element that can be changed at will (pretty much)

No, I'm a country member and I pay roughly half the full annual subs. I can play normal medals and stablefords but not any of the big events.

Club champ is restricted to pretty much cat 1, of which there are 50 odd, 8 of whom are scratch or better. Uneven fields can be made up of juniors or any one who isn't cat 1. Balloted on h/cap.
36 hole medal, followed by top 16 match play. All off scratch.

The best golfer wins. Not just the best stroke player, or the best match player, but the best golfer.

Last year a 4 h/capper won it. Fantastic achievement. He's only 22 odd. By far the highest h/cap to ever do so.
