Sure this is well late, but there are reasons which I won't go into. I've got this on for Sunday 17th Sept. 10.30am first tee at Macclesfield golf club. £20 for bacon buttie and coffee and 18 holes of Stableford. We play for this. Any interest? Not many in so far.
What a brilliant day this was!!! Macclesfield golf course has had some great improvements over the last two years, which has made it much more playable. What was unexpected was the state of their greens. Stunning! No other word for it. Criss-cross mown with a mower (not a bluddy tractor like our place) and amazingly firm. They were like links greens. The course was a bit wet in places, to be expected, but my first chip on to the first green set the tone for the day. As I watched my ball roll, and roll, and roll. WOW in September??????? On parkland?????? All greens exactly the same pace and firmness. Holes cut and NOT wrenched out of the ground to raise them up so your ball rolls into the hole at a slow pace and not wander away. Eight lads from my place were singing the praises afterwards of the place like a male voice choir! They are a tough crowd as far as golf courses are concerned as well. All, want to come back to play next year. I was instructed to have it at Macc again ! Who won? ME!!!!! I did feel a little twinge of guilt, but don't worry everyone, it didn't last !!!!! 36 points with two blobs! Well with greens like that even I could putt on them. Dead chuffed with the win as I usually pay rubbish there, which is one reason I chose it venue, so that I wouldn't win. "Honestly" I told everyone as the jeers rang in my ears. LOL.
Roll on next year.
