First time to Royal Troon for The Open
Going to the practice day Wednesday and the first day of the tournament.
Apart from the "Postage Stamp" where are the best places to view play?

All info gratefully received

I went a while back to Troon for the Open and we were surprised how easy it was to get a spot at the 1st tee. We watched most of the field tee off and then went for a walk round the course and then camped out half way down the 18th. I'm pretty sure due to location it does not sell out apart from the Sunday, so you may be surprised that its not as manic as a Ryder cup event.

They've got a new 1st tee for the open this year, right over by the sea. Had a look at it when we played a couple of months back and I'm not convinced there will be much room for spectators there.

The OP could copy what the yanks do at some of there events near the sea and go the nautical route and get a inflatable dinghy..............but I'm guessing with the sea on that coast line best not advised.

Was wondering if there is a spot where you can see a couple of Greens/tees close together,

Like at Wentworth you have the 7th Green, 8th tee, 10th green & 11th Tee all within a few yards of each other

If you can get a decent spot near the postage stamp you'll be able to see it, the approach to the 7th and the 9th tee. Not sure how it'll be for space tho, will be a popular spot I imagine.

Or, over on the opposite side of the 7th fairway, you'll be able to see the 7th, still look over to the postage stamp and also one of the holes behind (don't remember which, but I remember taking photos of the postage stamp from that tee)

Actually, looking at my photos there might just be the tee and banks of whins there!

That pic looks across the 7th fairway to the postage stamp green.

I might have a roam around for a large part of the day, as being in the hospitality all day I will be tempted by the drink and that's not a great ode when you have to drive to York straight after the day is done

Phil, as you're there on Wednesday we'll be expecting a full survey ready for presentation in hospitality at 9am sharp. It must include slope, level of dampness underfoot, full risk assessments of falling on one's behind, triangulated facility locations from every green, tee and fairway crossing point. Stretch goal to include a fully optimised route from and to every bar, coffee and bacon butty establishment on the course.

Hop to it. We expect no less. :D
