OK, I have nearly established the Autumn trip to Ireland as a tradition back home, so here is the plan for year 3.

Feedback welcome, trip planned for September (not Ryder Cup weekend)

Day 1 - The European. Played it last year and it murdered us but we loved it. We said we wouldn't do it again but now cannot resist based on knowing the course and having a fighting chance (plus the voucher they have us at the end of our round this year)

Day 2 - The Island. Got pushed from this years tour, in for next year. Slight concern that I hear you play from mats when the weather is not good, hopefully September will be fine. Looks awesome, never played it, would like some opinions.

Day 3 - Torn between Kilkeen Castle and Carton House Monty course. All advise welcome, Kilkeen Castle just edging at the moment.

Day 4 - Druids Glen. Unanimous. We all agreed we couldn't not play it after playing it this year.

Plan is ferry over from Wales early AM and play European on way from Rosslare to HQ at Dublin. Play Druids on way back to ferry.

Feedback on course welcome.

Looks great. Have you ever thought of having one night away from Dublin? You could try a little further west and try Rosses Point and Enniscrone

you are going all the way to the home of some of the best links courses in the world and playing Parkland golf?

appart from the first two anyway;)

Mate in my opinion , and that of a few others , the Monty course is a bit of a dissapointment , he tried to put a links course inland and again in my opinion it didnt work .. The O'Meara course is far nicer ..

Killeen correctly ahead aswell by the way

cant comment on the Monty, but I played the O'Meara back in October and it was fantastic!

They also have some of the finest parkland courses as well. Just because you like just links doesn't mean everyone else has to like just links!

The Island is a stunning golf course and I would not miss it out and if it is September you will not be off mats,no bloody chance,Links course on mats in September?? That would just be Irish of that happened!;)

I thought exactly the same thing myself

Get down south and play Ballybunion, Tralee and Waterville!!

AVOID!! Full of yanks and inflated green fees. Head up to the north west coast where the courses are every bit as good and better value. A links trip starting at Carne then working all the way up and round to Ballyliffen will satisfy the most demanding golfing afficionado.

Portmarknock links hotel is a fantastic course, they will do a deal with staying the them and the island.
arklow is also a great course and another lovely old course is woodenbridge.
Killeen castle is a far better course than any of the carton house courses.
The island and european are class.

And I'll also add in The Royal Dublin, Portmarnock Links and Portmarnock Golf Club all three courses are within 20mins driver from each other.

Now you talking .............K Club , not worth the money ..................EYG

I went to Mayo about 6 years ago and played 4 courses including Carne (before it was known!) and Enniscrone, they are both favourites and I will return. The 15th at Enniscrone is one of my favourite holes.

For now, too many other great courses to play for the first time.

I am a bit of a links nut to be fair. Home course is links, played Royal Porthcawl, Southerdown, Pennard and Ashburnham several times. Haven't ventured to N Wales yet, but it's not as much fun as a couple of days in Ireland.

Last March we played Burnham and Berrow, Saunton East and St Endedoc, some of the finest seaside golf you can play.

However, it can be punishing if you play links non-stop, so inland for a change is good, especially courses of this calibre.
