Part of our course runs near a public footpath.

Quite often we get walkers on the course round this area no bother, I understand this as it is a nicer area to walk in the open and they leave the course alone and walk round the greens.

However for a while the pro has complained that a certain gent has been using this footpath to go onto our course with a bag of balls and play into these greens. The greenkeepers and pro have repeatedly asked him to only use the course as a paying visitor and not play lots of balls into a green on the course as this is what we have a practice ground for.

They found out today who he is, it turns out he is the captain of another local club.

Would of thought he would of known better.

He is a prat, quiet frankly I would be ringing his course, and telling them I will be taking it further if nowt is done.

In effect he is stealing.. if nothing is done... I would inform the Police.

or every member of your club rock up and help themselves to his;)

Shocking behaviour- especially from a captain! More than most he should know better than that.

Hopefully his club take appropriate action.

We have a public footpath alongside several of our holes but some dog-walkers just think they own the entire course. One stupid woman persistently walks right across the middle of the course even when people are playing. Sooner or later she is going to get hit by a ball but what can you tell these people? They never listen and they think rules don't apply to them.

As for this club captain, I'd be using all my journalistic contacts to make sure he was caused the maximum embarrassment by his actions so he not only wasn't able to continue his appalling practice behaviour, but that he was forced out of office at his own club too.

Last year the police were informed by the pro, they would take no action as he was causing no damage.

Odd response I thought

That is. The local course to me, was a magnet to guys just wandering on and playing a few holes. They reg get the Police involved, who I've seen chuck guys off.

We have a public footpath running through our course that is often not respected. There is one couple that insist on walking their dog on the course and he is a nuisance to say the least. Always running off from the owners and picking golf balls up and moving them, running through bunkers and digging in them. Despite being asked multiple times to keep the dog on a lead the owner never has yet, and gets quite rude when he is approached about it.

Be interesting to find out what happens to this club captain (if anything) after the meeting takes place!

You should gently remind him how much the vet bill would be if the dog accidentally swallows a ball or if it falls ill from any of the chemicals sprayed on the course, he might start thinking about letting it off the lead a bit less often, even a little white lie and tell him it's believed the rabbits on the course have got mixi.

Wimbledon Common was a nightmare. Common land and public have the right of way on all holes and boy did they know it. One guy would deliberately walk from green to tee down the middle and make sure he took his dog off the lead at the same time to make it as long a wait for the golfers as possible. Nothing you could do but smile politely and wait

I often wonder what is going through the pathetic little brains of people who get a kick out of doing things like this.
