Three weeks ago I booked a Med cruise for the missus and me for the end of September. The booking was made with a well known Scottish based travel agents, by phone after picking a cruise on their website.
A £300 deposit was paid at the time of booking and was told the final balance would be due on May 31st.
Within a couple of days I got the booking forms to sign and return, also confirming that the balance was due on May 31st. All good so far.

Today I got a phone call from the travel agent to say that they had made a mistake at the time of booking, and the price of the cruise was dependant on it being paid in full at the time of booking, and would I like to pay the balance now?
Me.."No, I'll pay it on the 31st of May"
Travel Agent.."so you can't pay it today?"
Me.."I didn't say that I couldn't pay. I said I won't pay till then"
TA..."but it's due now"
Me..."Not according to your letter it's not. As far as I'm concerned when I paid the deposit you entered a contract to supply me with the cruise I wanted, and I agreed to pay for it by the due date"
TA..." I don't want to get into an argument with you sir!"
Me..." nor do I. I suggest you talk this over with your manager"
TA..." I am the manager sir"
Me.." then I suggest you have a think about it and phone me tomorrow to let me know what you've come up with. I've got to go out now"
TA..." OK. I'll speak to some of my colleagues and get back to you."

The wife's now having kittens and nipping my head because she thinks I've cancelled "her" holiday!! And she's usually the stroppy one.

Should I just have paid? Or am I right to be stubborn?
As far as I'm concerned, I aint paying till May 31st. If they cancel they'll need to refund the deposit and I'll go elsewhere!

:sbox:

Your a man after my own heart pal. You are doing the right thing and I'd give them nothing untill its due as per your contract.

Did this mob start off in a south Glasgow suburb in 1975?

;)

I can see where you're coming from but have you missed an opportunity? Let's just say they have genuinely goofed and they need you to help them out of the hole they're in. I wonder what they can give you that would entice you to pay up sooner rather than later?;)

Now, if they arranged the Executive lounge at the airport and a limo transfer to the ship... maybe give them a ring before they ring you and tell you they've had to cancel your holiday due to unforeseen circumstances... just a thought

If its BT I've used them on several occasions in the past and found the service to be excellent. I guess its all down to personal experience.

I'm sure it'll sort itself out.

If not. How about a cruise from Ardrossan to Brodick, golf clubs in tow. Drop the wife at Arran Aromatics as you get 18 in at Brodick. After diner suggest a stroll to watch the setting sun behind the Mull of Kintyre, beautiful sutset. Take your good lady round to Shiskine and she can stroll round the delightful 12 fairways of Shiskine GC as you enjoy the gem of a course.

Drive back to Brodick, stay at Auchrannie, book her into the spa the next day while you take in Lamlash and Whiting Bay.

You can then take a cruise the following day from Lochranza to Claonaig on the Mull of Kintyre. While there spend one quality day with her touring and tasting the Springbank Distillery. Thereafter you ken what's on your doorstep!

After you've filled your boots at Machrihanish and Machrihanish Dunes drive round to Tarbert where you can pick up your Calmac Cruise again and travel over to Portavadie for a spot of lunch in the marina. Very nice setting and food. Heck spend the night.

Following day drive round to Colintraive making sure you stop in Tighnabruich and pick up the next part of your cruise and hop across to the Island of Bute where 18 holes on Rothesay offer views not to be missed.

Final part of the cruise where all good things must come to an end is leave Rothesay and head back to the mainland and home!

Iain, your good lady will love you for ever after a holiday like that!

I think I'll pay it on Monday now. :whoo:

Haha, yes, that's the way to get it done.

I always try and get invoices paid as and when I get them. If I leave them until the deadline, i'll either end up sticking the dosh on the stock market, or find something while out shopping that I can't do without...

Tread carefully, a company that reliant on full payment seems to me, a compampany teetering on the edge. If they go pop, just lose the £300, not the full amount.Good luck.
Got a phone call today to say that the issue is now resolved and we don't need to stump up to May 31st.

I think I'll pay it on Monday now. :whoo:
