Hi people,

Just want to make a quick survey here. When playing abroad, do you prefer to have someone plan it for you (hotel, course, transport), or do you prefer to plan it yourself?
Really appreciate the answer. Thanks!

Bear in mind the people on this forum are golf nuts over and above the norm and so perhaps more inclined to do a diy trip. I suspect if you asked 100 people in a golf club then there would be a higher proportion who would use a travel agent. It's a bit like asking people at a political party conference how likely they are to vote in the next election, the people replying are more committed than the average person.

Does using golfbreaks count?

Usually cheaper than going direct.

Book the flights and other stuff separate.

I do it myself get all the facts flight numbers hotel golf etc then call a agent and ask them to beat it if they can't I book it myself.
Bit of a pain but over a large group or just a four all can save £££££££s

Depends on the holiday. For Spain in April we've booked our hotel, car and golf all seperately ourselves. For Mauritius in September we've used YourGolfTravel to book it all for us, transfers and all. Just easier in a country we're not familiar with.

For me golf holidays are very much like normal holidays. If you can DIY and it's cheaper it's a no brainer.
Every golf holiday I have had has been DIY, Mexico, Mauritius, Ireland and Portugal.
As Hobbit days, you are talking to golf nutters though.
A lot of what I have booked has been through advice off this forum 👍

Interesting 1st post, I gather your in the golf travel business?

We have used your golf travel and golf breaks in the past. We like them as the resorts we go to generally have an unlimited golf offer. So we can play twice a day and dip in for the odd 9 in the evening too. Only the agents tend to have that facility.

It disagree that that you save by diy'in, most travel agents or golf specific travel companies will match or be able to beat diy prices these days. (yes i'm in travel)

I'm based in the UK but travel a lot overseas. As a general rule if I'm going to on a short "boys" golf trip I'll try to book myself, but if I'm looking for some a bit different or luxurious then I use an agent. I like tournament golf holidays and use these guys http://greencardgolf.com/ quite a bit. They are quite small but service is very personal and they have better local knowledge than some of the bigger companies who offer golf breaks or golf travel holidays. Hope that helps a little have a great trip and enjoy the golf wherever you go!

Here we go plug for the business 😜

Travel Agent.

If you have a good one that you can work with, they can nearly always get the best deal. Whether they choose to pass a chunk of their benefit to you is a separate matter. Mine does though. Just saved me £400 on a family ski holiday in April - awesome service.

Book flights / car hire ourselves and use YGT to book golf as we approached courses direct and couldnt get a better price.
