I had my first dabble with trackman today, and it was a real eye opener. I had a driver fitting and found the driver i was using, wasn't really specced for me.

I urge everyone to have a go on one, it's given me so much to think about.

Thought i'd add to this. I got "fitted" for a benross rip speed 2 at AG. with a regular adila tour blue shaft at 10.5 degree. I was concerned about the height on it, put a thread up on here about changing the shaft. and was told to get a lesson. Somone mentioned getting a launch monitor, so i thought i'd give it a go.

What an eye opener it was. Got on the trackman, and hit a few shots to some tutting from the pro. Then called over to look at my numbers, 101-103mph swing speeds, 155-160mph ball speeds, and a +0.9-1.2 degree angle of attack. With some crazy backspin numbers with the Benross.

Then changed to a Nike covert i'd bought cheap off ebay the day before. Which has a stock stiff shaft, and in response to how high my benross went, i'd set it to 8.5 degree. Hit a few more, it was a massive improvement, but the spin had dropped to 1900-2200. It felt like it was going miles, but the numbers suggested otherwise, with only 220ish yards average carry. Swing speed stayed at the 102ish mark.

I was then brought out a SLDR with the stock stiff shaft, lofted to 11 degrees with the weight set to fade almost all the way, ( i draw the ball naturally, and when I bugger it up it's a snap hook) This was supposed to help. Hit a few more, and didn't like the high flight, and didn't think it was going far enough. Called over to see the numbers whilst the pro had a big grin on his face. The swing speed had dropped to around 98mph because of the heavier shaft, but somehow he'd found me 32 yards on average, compared to the Nike, which was already an improvement over the Benross. The longest ones being 279 and 280 yards. To say I was pleased was an understatement.

We discussed the options and then lofted up the Nike to 11.5 degrees to get a comparison. and it transformed the club. Admittedly it was shorter than the SLDR, but only by 3 yards. Not enough for me to splash out on a new sldr. But enough for me to think about getting a heavier shaft for the Nike i came in with. And enough for me to book more time on the launch motor to sort out alarming in to out swing.

Until you experience it yourself, you don't know what your missing out on. I'm a high handicapper, but i don't have the average "high handicapper" swing. I will never get fitted without a launch monitor ever again!

If the covert is only 3 yards behind the sldr, I wouldn't bother with a heavier shaft, if of course your reason behind it is solely distance related,

May I ask how much you paid for the session? I've got the covert driver myself and would love to find the correct settings for it via trackman

Always been a big advocate of using launch monitors not only in fittings but in lessons too. The OP's experience reiterates this but also shows yet again just how bad AG are for really giving the customer the right clubs in a fitting

Been having a few lessons with the assistance of Trackman lately and I have found it interesting though not revelatory. Whilst the numbers are indicative of where errors are being made, the numbers are so minute as to make it no more straightforward to correct errors (club face open 3 deg for example). Interesting though.

Have to agree with Homer, having lessons on trackman is awesome. Gives you so much info and instant feed back.

What were the actual figures of the Benross spin, you didn't actually mention them, neither did you mention the yardage. Can't imagine seeing crazy numbers for backspin and height, yet still being able to get a draw out of a incorrect shaft.

I wish I could have a as good a swing on a trackman session, generally only gets better the more balls I've hit.
