So ive been wanting to go on a Trackman for a while and i decided to travel an hour from where i am to have a go. It was well worth the trip few faults picked up straight away. I was hitting a 6 iron at 96mph with a total distance of 212yards problem was 1100 spin rate and a launch angle of +1. Just impossible to see with the naked eye and now gives me an explanation to my erratic distances.

Cant wait to go back.

96mph and 1100 rpm with a six iron and it still went 212 yards ..... wow, impressive stats.

Would love to see what your other stats were for other clubs !

In other words you were thinning the wotsits off of it! For that club head speed, the launch should be around 18-20 degs and 6000rpm.

I was under the impression lower spin made it go further. The only other club i used was driver which i wasnt hitting the best.... between 110 and 116 although the 116 had 8400 spin so barely went anywhere.

I think you might have your terms a little wrong!

LA of +1 for 6 iron would mean 5 and longer would be being imbedded in the ground!

Perhaps the term you were after was Angle of Attack (AodA)!

You were hitting the ball on the up? I thought - was down and + was up ? Have a vedio lesson as you may find your releasing to early and flipping your hands hence thin or scooped shots.

Swing speed is good and could give you a 200+ yard shot. But would need higher spin.

Yeah angle of attack +1 sorry. No the values for spin are right, obviously not a picture perfect swing.

I agree with Piece. Swapping the Driver and 6 Iron numbers would make more sense!

Here's the PGA Tour average numbers

Low spin isn't necessarily good for distance. Without enough spin the ball will simply drop out with gravity. It's the spin that keeps it i[. Too much spin.is also bad as the ball simply balloons up against gravity, losing energy and also just dropswith little or no roll. Anything below about 1800 is considered as ultra/too low, depending, of course, on ball speed and launch angle.

Yeah it was part of a lesson i was hitting it on the up and i was flipping my hands which was a chain reaction from my bad posture. He just said if i eventually start hitting down my spin will go up and ill be able to hold more greens. My driver spin was ridiculous in fact while on the monitor my max carry was 254.

As long as you understand the numbers you were shown. I love these launch monitor sessions especially seeing what the club head and ball is doing and understanding the physics behind the mechanics. Will you go back to the pro for lessons and use the monitor or was it a one off

Im definitely going to go back now i have a benchmark of where i was. Just a shame they are not economical for all pros because its an unbelievable tool especially for me as i like hard evidence on what im doing wrong. Ive nearly packed it all in recently because ive seen 0 progress this year and if truth be told i expected to be down to about 12 by now. I just need to get my speed matched with some direction.

When you do, I suggest you get the following numbers - and write them down while you are still there and they can be verified by the operator.

Club
AofA
Swing Path
Swing Speed
Ball Speed
Backspin
Sidespin
Launch Angle
Carry Distance
Overall Distance

The numbers you have been quoting just don't seem real.

It's can be a great tool, bit does require a little bit of understanding to interpret the results correctlt (like the +1 AofA indicating flipping for example).

Sorry but for a high handicapper it's too technical IMO.

Potentially.

But I know a couple of hackers with PhDs (one in AstroPhysics, the other in Robotics) who are not phased by 'numbers'.
It really depends on the person.

I also know a couple of guys who wouldn't need theTrackman to see what is happening in the swing simply by observing it and the ball-flight - and a considerable number of years experience!

Again, either way - if it works, don't knock it!

I much prefer the GC2, far better for nailing those pesky 1/2 and 3/4 distances.

If you want to lower your scores I would recommend a session making sure you have a shot for every 10 yards from 40 to 120 using something like a GC2, I have been told the trackmans are not as good for the shorter shots when compared to a GC2.

GC2 actually measures the ball stats directly, where as Trackman and Flightscope reverse calculate some of the stats, which can lead to incorrect assessment in wind conditions. Even better if you can get GC2 with HMT.
