I am delighted that our former junior member Benn Barham has finished in 4th place in his qualifying group and moves on to the final stages. Having had a look at who's at final qualifying there is a whole host of well known names fighting for (Ithink) about 30 tour cards.

Imagine having to go through that to earn a living.

Best of luck Benn.!!

Nice one Benn and hope he succeeds in the next stage. I cannot imagine the pressure in this event and just trying to make a living out of this beautiful, yet at times unfathomable sport !

Imagine being at work for a week and the boss saying, you didn't work as well as the other 70 people this week so I'm not going to pay you anything. You then have to fly to some other part of Europe and try and earn some wages next week!

Benn, as I have said before is a wonderful guy - I chatted briefly to him 2 weeks ago and he always enquires how you are playing ... how many pro's would do that .......... Mark Roe perhaps!!!

He sounds a delight and I sincerely hope he achieves his dream. We had a young lad work in our pro shop for a while and he's now off +1.4. 18 years old and happy to play golf regularly with a (much) older female golfer and at no time makes me feel awkward or inadequate. He is always enquiring about my game and handicap cuts and is genuinely interested and chuffed when I do well. I have to think that's a rare and special character trait.

I was happy to play with older women when I was 18 :D:D

Not much has changed. :o
(you set 'em up and I'll knock 'em over) :D

And now its down to playing alone.

Q school sounds tough and every year produces some real tough luck stories and so its hard to imagine how much pressure these guys are under especially if they are close to the golden ticket with a few holes left to play.

Good luck to Benn - I will be keeping an eye out for him. My son has got as far as Final Stage in the past, and I can confirm that it is indeed a nerve wracking process.

There are certainly some well known names in the mix this year, so will be tough.

Yes it's like a "who's who", I see Di Dougherty's hubby is there... just seems weird... he's famous.. does he need to qualify for his job?... very surreal.

how many of the final make it onto the main tour? Is it 25?

I believe that it's 30 + ties. I was wondering if Nick D is the youngest player to have fallen so far down the rankings in such a short time?

There's no reason why a pro golfer shouldn't behave properly but thet generally are self centrered types - you should hear what one of the tour caddies told me that he thinks of most of them!

Why would anyone be less than chuffed when a lady with a pink golf trolley does well!

A fair point  I sometimes leave it outside the pro shop and watch as passers by admire its sleek style...
